So the general consensus is, PP with pure plus has good moly for anti wear, and I should be using a FRAM ultra synthetic filter?

Penzoil Platinum virgin oil analysis on Petroleum Quality Institute of America, you can see how much ingredient is in the oil.

You'll see that Quaker State Ultimate Durability is almost identical to PP, but cost less. I've used both in my vehicles and my engines run very smooth and very quiet (even during hard acceleration).

Filter-wise, I use WIX filters for everything (air, fuel, transmission, cabin-air, oil, etc).

The oil in that analysis was purchased in January 2013 and I don't believe that's the latest GTL formula of Pennzoil Platinum. I found a data sheet for the new stuff, but it doesn't give any info about boron or moly.

I've owned several 3.0 taurus's. The transmission torque converter will strip out at some point in its life, it has a design flaw.

The engine will also likely blow a head gasket as it ages. Both are cheap to repair in that vehicle.

Other than those things the cars are great for the money. It seems like a waste of money to run synthetic in that engine IMO. Any name brand conventional will perform just as well in that dinosaur engine.

If you absolutely have to id run some supertech or Rural king syn. Run a motorcraft filter or Fram.

I know it's overkill, but I'd like to use PP, seems like a cool product to me. Just wondering if it has moly or not. And I'll try a FRAM ultra filter, even though I've always heard FRAM was garbage. Especially the OCOD.

From what I hear; the QSUD has a nice dose of Moly&boron. PP was like $12 "clearance" at K Mart. Could check there for some; but supplies may be limited.

Here is the pqia report on it . Has a little bit of moly. PYB has more.

Fram Ultra is a great filter. And don't fear the Fram Orange can. Currently running a Fram Orange can on my dads S10 with the 2.2 - no issues.

Thanks so much for posting this...this test result does NOT show up on the PQIA pulldown menu for synthetics, that one leads to the older non-GTL oil. I'm glad they post these test results, but finding them on that website can be a real mess!!! Seems like the only way I can find this newer PP result is to scroll down to Sept. 2014 on the homepage.
I gotta say, the test results for QSUD and PP 5W-30 are pretty darned similar. PP has a little more calcium and phosphorus, both have a modest dose of moly, neither has much boron. Same parent company, of course.

I keep telling myself that a FRAM filter is the weakest link when paired with PP

I understand I could get away with PYB or ST, but I would like to stay with a high performance synthetic! Also, Why does some oils sold at walmart have their logo on it? Ive seen M1 with a walmart logo. Makes you wonder if its of lesser quality.

Thanks guys! I know this is a rough forum to post on, so go easy on me! lol

If you've been running Synpower nothing will be gained by switching to Pennzoil Platinum. I would only go with PP if you got it on sale way cheaper than Synpower.

So why does KN market a "high flow" filter if it yields no performance gain? Would an Ultra Synthetic filter by FRAM be a downgrade?

Hey AntDeek - If you're interested in trying Pennzoil Platinum for your next fill, we can help you. We're currently looking for consumers who are willing to test out Pennzoil Synthetics to see how we stack up against the competition. You'd have the opportunity to try out our latest synthetic offerings and get some results/feedback on the oil’s performance from an independent testing facility. Please send us a direct message if you are interested in participating. Looking forward to hearing from you! - The Pennzoil Team

Like any SOPUS PCMO, PP has moly.
Nothing wrong with the Ultra as an oil filter, although it's probably overkill for this unkillable engine as is PP.
If you pop for a Fram Ultra at least consider running it for two OCIs, just to get your money out of it.

I like SOPUS (Pennzoil, Quaker) products since they employ an army of engineers-chemists. Skip to the 4:44 point in the video below for wear testing etc:
