Is it safe to run for 10K OCI on mostly highway driving? My dealer changed oil a little early after 5000 miles as a courtesy (usually does 7500 miles), I'd like to return to the original schedule. I'm driving a '13 Outback with a 2.5L 4 cyl boxer engine

Are you still under warranty? Subaru says 7,500.

10,000 isn't a problem for the oil. Just watch the level, since many of these burn a bit.

I'd go for it. Blackstone Labs recently showed me that I can safely go for a 9,500 mile OCI on the same model/year/engine. That particular drain was RP, but I've previously gotten almost identical UOA results using PP, and from what I have seen of new oil analysis, I'd say that the Subaru 0W-20 is in the running for the same quality of motor oil.

It would take two more 5k oil changes to get back on track.

Well, it's out of 3/36K warranty, still has powertrain, and so far doesn't burn oil noticeably after 7500 mi. Commute is 20-25 mi each way (95% highway) with a 600 mi trip 5 or 6 times per year plus grocery runs on the weekends. I've been using M1-AFE and PP 0w-20 with the OEM Subaru filter. @BHopkins, what did your UOA look like after 9500?

I haven't done it yet. It was Blackstone's evaluation that based upon my 7500 mile UOA, I was quite safe to go 9500. The 7500 mile UOA (52,500 miles on the odometer) looked great.

At my next oil change, the powertrain warranty expires, and I am seriously considering going with 10,000 mile OCI at that point in time. I'll get a UOA after the first couple 10k oil changes and see what it looks like before deciding to stay the course.
