Are stp filters any good anymore? I know they used to be, but thought I heard that they have gone down in quality now. Autozone has Pennzoil conventional on sale for a 12.99 after a $7 mail in rebate with a stp filter so I'm kinda tempted to buy it, but wasn't sure on the filter.

I used to use STP filters on my ride on mower, but have since found out that the B&S filter and equivalents are the same size as a Motorcraft FL-910S- a better filter for $4 and commonly available and what I use on my Ford Ranger.

The STP filter I purchased last week was a 'Champion' made filter.

It looked very similar and as well constructed as the equivalent Purolator.
Can't speak as to it's in use performance.

STP oil filters are made by Champ, and many of them are made using the "ecore" design. I'm not a fan of the design, but opinions vary and many have used them without any problems.

There have been many postings of ecore filters that have done their job with no issues at all, and a few posts of failed filters.

The only STP filters I've seen lately are the S8A and S25. The S25 is still the usual design internally, but the S8A is now an E-core.

I use STP filters on my motorcycle without issue. They seem reasonably well constructed, certainly no worse than what is typically available... The version I use (S3512) does not use an e-core design (not that this is necessarily a negative). They seem similar to the Fram's which I typically use.

What's the FRAM motorcycle filter equivalent to the stp s3512?

At AZ this weekend and both grades of STP oil filters are made in China for the ones I looked at. Nothing like any USA filter.

Side note I bought 4 jugs of the Shell Rotella gas truck synthetic and received a $40 check in the mail about two weeks later. Got the oil on Amazon for $21 something.

Nothing wrong with STP filters, use the 2qt filter on my 83 Silverado, no problems.

Same here and been that way for awhile. No more Champ made blue STP. ML now also made in China, but few applications and looks to be on the way out in my observation.

There was a post here saying some AZ still have Champ made blue STP, I can't speak for whole country, but they are history at local AZs here.

STP filters are decent standard filters, good for normal intervals (5000-7500 miles) in clean, healthy engines.
