So, I went to Ford to pick-up an FL-820S to swap in to see if it would eliminate the noise......
And then THIS happened:
*WARNING, GRAPHIC FILTER PORN TO FOLLOW*
When you ask about a volume discount and they give you a pretty good one if you buy a case
It's the Mother Load!
So what filter are you presently using that gives start-up noise?
And want are you going to do with all those filters if they don't cure it?
Well, we have two 5.4L's, and a 4.6L that take this filter, along with my BIL's Explorer. So there is no shortage of use for them.
It's not like everybody wants to pony up the $$$$ for the Strapore filters I've been running.
The filter that I took off was a Fleetguard Stratapore. It is the third one on this truck, and the first to make any start-up noise. This is also the truck's first run with M1 0w40. The noise started a couple of weeks ago. Some mornings it does it, others it doesn't. When it DOES do it, it lasts a few minutes before it gradually gets quieter and goes away. For all I know, it could be a sticking chain tensioner...
And when I say minutes, I literally mean it. I start the truck, let it run for about 15 seconds, put it in reverse, back out of the driveway. Hit the turn off of our street, drive a couple blocks up to my son's school, and by the time he's out of the truck and on his way into the school, (this is about 2 minutes time) the noise has gone away.
