What about no oil flow to the main bearings every time it stops? That's what I would worry about. Add me to the list of people who won't own one. It's just another way to improve numbers with CAFE. That's why it can't be permanently disabled. And it's been out for a while and you don't have a lot of broken starters. But it may surprise you to know that the aux battery that it requires typically fails pretty often. The starters are fine though, they knew enough to beef them up. Haven't had a starter fail in a long time although alternator failures are still pretty common. Last car did over 200k on the original starter. Some like having the aux battery fail, then the start stop doesn't kick in. But you do get an error message.
Based onBased on what?
Okay, let's say your findings are an accurate reflection of their reliability, that doesn't make the function any less annoying...In all the forums and FB groups and where folks go to complain, where is it? Lord knows you can find every common issue with every car online/forums/FB groups but in the 20 years I've been avidly part of those communties, since the advent of start/stop, I've never heard of a single common/reported issue related to it beyond batteries in the VW Atlas that weren't up to the task and were subsequently replaced with batteries that were.
Apparently were are just old coots yelling at the clouds...What about no oil flow to the main bearings every time it stops? That's what I would worry about. Add me to the list of people who won't own one.
And that I can understand/agree on to some degree. Have you driven one/spent time in one with this feature for any amount of time? I get used to things quickly I suppose - I rarely turn it off in our vehicle with it. I like the quiet at stop lights.Okay, let's say your findings are an accurate reflection of their reliability, that doesn't make the function any less annoying...

My wife and I are the same. She doesn't seem to know what coasting is. She has to be on one pedal or the other. Me? My truck is still on the original brakes... at 175k+ miles! When I had an F150 that had the feature, it became habit to start the truck and hit the disable button before putting it in gear. I kept trying to do it when I switched to a truck that didn’t have it later.
I wouldn’t call it the worst feature ever, as most people don’t notice. However, a person with a mechanical mind would greatly dislike it. Much like the way I use the brakes versus the way my wife does. I do a lot of coasting so brake life remains long. She doesn’t think about brakes, and uses them to stop at any speed.
That's where you're wrong.... The function isn't the least bit annoying.Okay, let's say your findings are an accurate reflection of their reliability, that doesn't make the function any less annoying...
It's like this-I don't start threads for the sake of starting them......and yea "GET OFF MY LAWN!!"And CKN better stay off my lawn!!
nope. Not on my GMC. It is turned down all the way but still annoying. I don’t buckle up when hooking up and disconnecting the boat trailer. Maybe it’s just me but it’s too LOUD!You can typically turn that off - just have a look in your manual/
Interesting - this feature used to drive me nuts with rental vehicles I used for field work where you typically let it run all day as you worked from it and needed the doors open or hopped in to move 10' and didn't buckle the seat belt. I seem to recall Ford having the ability to turn it off.nope. Not on my GMC. It is turned down all the way but still annoying. I don’t buckle up when hooking up and disconnecting the boat trailer. A friend of mine and I rented a vehicle with this feature which drove from OH to ND. Neither of us cared for this function...And that I can understand/agree on to some degree. Maybe it isn't annoying to you, but you have no idea what is to me...That's where you're wrong.... The function isn't the least bit annoying.
Isn't it about time for you to start another thread complaining about cars with too many lights?
Again, if this thread annoys you, why post in it? People who complain about threads crack me up!It's like this-I don't start threads for the sake of starting them......and yea "GET OFF MY LAWN!!"![]()
I think I generally get used to/accept changes like this and just adjust. It does take some getting used to for sure.A friend of mine and I rented a vehicle with this feature which drove from OH to ND. Neither of us cared for this function...
