"The Trump administration said it's ending a credit for automakers that install a so-called "start/stop feature" in the vehicles, part of a broader rollback of environmental regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The start/stop feature, which is today widely used in newer vehicles, shuts off gas engines when cars idle, such as when they're stopped at a red light or stuck in traffic. The Environmental Protection Agency described the technology as "almost universally hated" in its Thursday announcement about the broader overhaul."

Starter motors, spark plugs and ignition coils breathing a sigh of relief :ROFLMAO:

It'll change in the next cycle of leaders. I don't like ESS and I turn it off in both of my vehicles that have it, but I understand the "why" behind it. It's short sided to just go away from it if it is truly the right tool for the job. Same thing with the investments in electric propulsion. I'm not saying I think electric cars are the jump we should take, but a political change could mean a need to have that investment ready.

Another thread like this was just stopped by the mods. Most vehicles have a defeat button for the start/stop. It gives you the option of the motor not turning off and the need to buy more gas over a motor that does shut off.

If OEM’s wish to keep it and people wish to pay for it no one is stopping them. Welcome to the free market.

If this topic is not verboten, will the EPA cafe regulations also be lifted?

If they are how about the safety extras added on?
Will we be able to import euro cars which aren't sold in the USA?
Will manual transmissions make a comeback?

From my understanding, it takes a literal act of Congress to do away with them entirely.... They can however set the fines to "$0" which is what they've done.

That being said, our Expedition is the first vehicle I've owned with it. Neither my wife nor I like it and if we don't hit it immediately upon start, we are very quickly reminded the first time it shuts off at a stop. Need to look into a dongle or something for it. Every other vehicle I have ever been in with it has been the same, it's always noticeable to me and freaks me out the first time it does it.

Same with cylinder deactivation.... I can always tell.
