Some kind of... vapor?

Today I was changing the oil in my 94 mustang GT. Has the 5.0L engine. As I lay there on the creeper waiting for the oil to finish draining, I noticed a curious... gas? vapor? coming off of the oil itself. I also saw it coming out of the hole. It was just a small, smokey looking vapor that you kinda had to pay attention to see. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this, and if so what it was.

It was the magic leaking out.

Nah, in all honesty if you drained the oil hot it could've been condensation or fuel boiling off.

Did you give the car a good warm up before draining it? I.e.: at least 20 minutes round town? Could be simple condensation....if you're real worried, get a UOA done on the oil in that drain pan.

That's the weird thing. The engine was cold.

Possibly some VOCs evaporating off changing the density of surrounding air giving a shimmery effect?
