so who here admits to eating tofu?

Health food is either boring or expensive ..or both.

Well-informed as always. Do you ever bother asking questions, or do you always go by nothing but by your own experience?

The rest of your diatribe I believe to identify as hyperbole, so I'm cool with it. I especially agree with this:

As for me, I intend to not become a physical wreck before my brain has turned into cheese (Too late you say?). You can't cheat fate, but you sure can tempt fate with the choices you make.

Well, one should never take such discussions too seriously here ..but ..while we're at it

I like MEAT.
I like Gravy
I like most of the things that fall under the often misunderstood terms "Whitetrash cooking" ...high fat ..tastes good.

Now if you can turn twigs and leaves ..grass clippings and bark so that they taste JUST AS GOOD as the stuff that is all so harmful to "us" (those who are not enlightened as you are) ..then we can share something in common ..at least in food. Otherwise, you can take the "wishful thinking" that goes along with most adaptive behaviors. "You have to think it tastes good" or "You're looking at it all wrong, it's not any harder or more expensive to purchase and prepare these things" (again we're limiting this to going to a store and preparing a meal - not "well you'll pay more in medical insurance and other third order effects).

If it's so cheap and easy to make healthy food that tastes JUST as good as our lousy unhealthy food ..then why is it that no one mass markets this stuff? I would think that if it truly isn't more expensive or cumbersome ..and is transparent in appeal ..that someone is surely missing out on an untapped market. I see very little that hasn't been scavenged in market potential ..so why are these healthy choices so hard to find?

..but by all means, mori, educate me ..but leave out leaves and twigs and grass clippings and tree bark (or items that have about as much appeal).

Of course, I would also offer to share with you the easily attained delight of totally unhealthy food. You've actually had marbled beef, correct? If not, then I'd say that you need to experience it before commenting on the liabilities vs. the benefits.

btw-I've had alleged healthy foods from people who would get violently ill with my diet. It's creative within its limitations ..but they can keep it.

As far as my longevity, I don't think too many expire any earlier than they would otherwise. Their condition may be better or worse. We're all subject to the immutable fact that "we ams what we ams".

Here's to hoping that you expire with a perfectly good body that could have served you well for another 20-30 years.

yikes i should of posted in the food section,b ut i havent been in there before. feel kind of weird aksing for tofu advice on an oil website. supprised no one has suggested me to flavour the tofu with german castrol gummy bears.

so what you guys are saying is that i shouldnt treat tofu as a replacment to meat, but as its own type of food. as one guy said "tofu is tofu". ok i can dig that.
it must be why that tofu hotdog tasted like a bun, catsoup and mustard sandwhich. kinda gross without the meat flavour...

so im going to continue trying out tofu. i just wish we could get the more exotic blends down here. i watched how its made tv show and say they make bbq tofu, and other tofu with flavour already added. sounds alot better than this plain soy flavoured junk at publix that tastes like soy flavoured eggs.

speaking of hotdogs, i have to do something with the rest of these tofu dogs. anyone have a suggestion? i was thinking of cutting them up and using them as filler in a black beans and yellow rice dish.

I've never eaten twigs and leaves (except mint leaves and a few others), grass clippings and bark. You think that's health food?

I think your definition of "health food" is skewed. In case you have not noticed (I don't know if you live out in the boonies), healthier and healthy foods are being mass-marketed everywhere. I'm talking about generic foods, produce, grains, dairy products etc. You are apparently thinking of extreme stuff like macrobiotic diets. I'm talking about making sensible choices. Saying that health food is necessarily expensive or boring is just not true. A carot is health food. Costs about 99 cents a pound. Of course if you like Twinkies... :;p

I love meat, too. That doesn't mean I stuff myself with roast pork every day.

I like it well enough in miso soup, but don't otherwise order it. Tofu is no worse than boiled okra for texture, and has about as much taste as grits.

"...so what you guys are saying is that i shouldnt treat tofu as a replacment to meat.."

I wouldn't recommend lots of tofu, as it's been implicated in alzheimer's (speling?).

As are many things. They tend to fall into the "rabbit food" category. Not too bad in moderation to accent this or that.

I can't either ..and you're right. I figured that I'd add some healthy stuff to my diet. I just came home with a pint of pork fried rice.

btw- You're invited to dinner tomorrow. The guests will be enjoying an appetizer of raw oysters. The entree consists of boiled dog.

Now you imply I'm eating a bag of raw carrots or other rabbit food and nothing else. Carrot-scoffer!

I was raised eating wholesome food instead of junk. I like what I eat, and my food has never been a trendy diet, but regular stuff that's not over-processed and additized with chemicals. How come I'm getting the impression you are a can-of-soup, takeout-burger, box-of-cookies kinda guy? You only need a can opener and a microwave -- and likely you'll need blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis medication soon, if you don't need it already. Unless you got super-duper genes, good luck, you'll need it.

I want to be able to do at 78 what my grandmother could do at that age: alpine skiing!

I'd like to be skiing this weekend on the big falls but knees preclude that. There's a simpleword for people who eat junk...LAZY!! And it's usually the wives who are the laziest

Expect better of you Gary. You must be bored?

Mostly tongue in cheek stuff here, Sprintman. Nothing serious. I am a meat eater ..but it's not like I sit down to a platter of spare ribs every night ..and it's not like I make an ugly face when veggies are on my plate. I passed that stage about 45 years ago. I also do have a garden and grow some stuff for the fun of it. I would have a hard time enjoying a total veggie diet ..as healthy as it may be.

I just had a recent battery of tests. This included a stress test, leg veins, pulmonary, etc...etc. My doctor says that on paper .....I'm in pretty good shape. I told him if this is what 51 is supposed to feel like ...he can keep his advice.

Forgive the distractions off topic

Well, I was never a skier ..but I'll settle for what my 88 and 91 year old grandfathers did at that age. Breath.

I'm a huge meat eater! In the past two days we've had two very huge steaks with friend's of ours. Each one of these steaks was almost 6 pounds! So over the past couple of days I myself have eaten about 3-4 pounds worth of steak! Here are pics of each of the lovely beasts.

I can't stand tofu. Tried it cooked in every possible permutation and it just doesn't work for me. But eating healthy doesn't require tofu. Just cut out the processed sugar, processed wheat, and vegetable oils/transfats from your diet and you can pretty much eat anything else you want in whatever quantity you want. My father-in-law is in his 70s. He doesn't eat processed wheat or sugars, but eats everything else in huge quantities and can still do a full 8 hours of hard labor in his retirement.

Yum, Patman.

Just add a leafy salad ..perhaps some red wine to buffer the fats a bit.

No salad for me, just meat!

I'm the complete opposite of a vegetarian! The way I see it, that cow on my BBQ was a vegetarian and look how things turned out for him!
