So what, if anything, makes an oil “bad” for a normal 5k OCI?

What can make oil bad by 5k miles?
Viscosity breakdown, ford 7.3l power strokes high pressure oil pump will shear your 40 weight oil down to 30 weight in about 5k miles or less.
Fuel contamination, any gasoline direct injection engine, not just Honda. I change the oil in my wife's non-honda gid car at 3k to 5k in the winter because of fuel contamination.
Thermal break down, but probably won't see that in any modern street driven engine, unless someone does something stupid like bypasses or block air flow to the oil cooler.
Tbn long depletion, think farm trucks that only run up 5k miles in 3 to 5 years.
Tbn rapid depletion, known sludge motors like euro junk cars.
