I recently read the outstanding UOA that JohnnyG got with Havoline 5w30 in his 5.3 liter Chevy truck. Is it reasonable to think I would experience the same results(12,500mi/14 months OCI)using the OLM in my 6 liter gas 3/4 ton Chevy ? It appears his driving habits are similar to mine, we have the same engine "family" and the only environmental difference is hotter here in Texas.

Thanks for your comments.

I suppose you'll just have to try it and see. UOA's are at best an indicator of what you might expect with a different vehicle/driver/area/weather.

I tried Havoline in a Mazda with good results though.

I think the UOA to which you refer is at least some evidence that the GMOLM is a reliable tool.

Try it and see.

In short, no, I don't think anyone here is seriously going to recommend a 12K OCI for a dino 5w30.

UOA's for the GM 6.0L typically display 40-60+ ppm of copper. My goal for a 6.0L would be to get Cu to trend down into the 40's.

Viscosity may be a useful tool - these engines can run 5w30 thru 5W-40 - but understandably, 5w30 is probably the best option if you have any warranty requirements to satisfy.

IMHO, the jury is still out on the GMOLM, I'm currently tracking the OLM performance on my GM 5.3L to see how it correlates with my fairly predictable, high mileage driving cycle.

Actually, Terry (suggested) some problems with that UAO. The analysis was posted as received, with the only parameter being flagged was the lead at 22 ppm.
