I got a 2002 Windstar van with 118,000 miles on it and purchased some mobil1 Synthetic oil. I am worried that going to synthetic with this many miles may cause problems. What do you guys think?

Thanks ahead of time. I searched for similar questions but didn't find anything.

Highly recommend using a pint of the Amsoil Engine Flush first (or even better AutoRX), to clean out previously formed oil deposits. This minimizes any seal related issues and will get you optimum results more quickly.

Will do thanks!

I occasionally use M1 in my gf`s 1998 Olds 88 LS that has near 140k. I actually filled her car with it this past weekend before we headed on a 8 hour drive to the coast.

Why change to Mobil 1 syn now ??
I'd keep running dino and keep the change.

TeeDub, every other thread you are pimping the AMSoil Engine Flush! Did you buy stock or something?

AJ,

About the only time I see issues changing over to a top tier synthetic is if the engine isn't flushed first to remove ore-existing sludge, gum, varnish deposits. Under these conditions the first batch of high detergency synthetic can become very contaminated after several thousand miles and you can see noticably higher oil consumption.

This is mainly a concern with the very high TBN, PAO/Ester based synthetics; a lower detergent (7-9 TBN), Group III based oil doesn't seem to have this changeover effect.

May be true....but I doubt it....never had this problem when switching any family cars to Amsoil.

Not needed or required. You sound like a shill for the supplier.
