was at lowes today getting some shower parts. while in line a woman with a weedeater just walks out without paying. the cashier yells at her but she just keeps on walking. all of us in the line were amazed, but what amazed me more was what the woman that was paying said. She said" if you guys are going to let her just walk out without paying, why should i pay for this stuff". this kind of attitude towards theft was interesting .
That is why Walgreens had to shut down stores in L.A. (massive looting)

Grabs of merchandise, thrown into cars, driving off.

You guys are so dramatic.

For all you know she just did an exchange at the customer service counter and walked out with the replacement weed eater.

At my Lowes the CS counter is nowhere near the checkout lines and you have to walk through the checkout lines to exit the store.
If that were the case why wouldn't the customer stop and explain instead of continuing to walk out? After I injured my back and couldn't work construction any longer I worked part time retail for awhile before finally having to go on disability. You'd be surprised at the amount of shoplifting that goes on in a store per day. Just in my department alone which may have been 5% of the stores floor space there were very few nights I didn't find open empty packages that had the contents removed and stolen not to mention all the products that were stolen and the packaging took out with the product. Yes, I kept an eye out and if I suspected someone I'd immediately call security to put a tail on them. I've seen people with carts loaded down with hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise hit the doors in a full run trying to get out without getting caught.

I am almost positive this is what happened or at least I would like to think that way.

A bus driver I know once had a passenger that due to circumstance couldn't pay her fare. It was a loyal customer and a silly circumstance like forgot her wallet. The driver wanted to let her on without paying and IMMEDIATELY 7 other people wanted their ticket refunded, which is impossible for obvious reasons. He ended up paying her ticket out of his own pocket to get the others to calm down.
In Vancouver, Canada, the bus drivers are instructed to say nothing if someone refuses to pay. Too many drivers were injured in the process and the union representing the drivers had things changed so drivers were not responsible to make sure people paid. I believe the patrons faces are recorded for a bit more security for the drivers.

Yes it's the same here aswell. Definitely not worth a few days disability over a 1.6 euro ticket. It's not even worth it to keep the bus stationary till they pay or leave and delay paying passengers, imo...

We also have cameras and can record conversations, uplinks to dispatching etc... We also can't accept cash anymore so we won't get robbed for our fare money, only for our wallets and phones now.

Why would the customer in my example owe anyone an explanation?

I can see the Bitog thread now...

Wife and I were in San Francisco a few years ago and wanted to ride the cable car for the experience. We ran and jumped on one all smiles. We tried to pay the conductor but he waved us off. No one caused a ruckus and demanded a refund. I assume others paid.

I don't care for thieves and don't want to say anything bad but the way everything is increasing in price these days I may end having to be one :(
