Driving home tonight, I noticed what looked like a light coloured cat lying on the street, on the opposite side of the road. Wasn't sure what it was, so I took a u-turn from the roundabout, which I reckon you call 'circular junctions' in the States, and headed back.

Turns out there were 3 pups (Golden Retrievers) on the centre of the road. Thankfully the Grand Marquis is a large enough car, so I was able to block both lanes momentarily. Took me a minute to pick all three of them up and placed them in the front passenger footwell, until some gentleman came along with his wife and said they had run out the house, a couple of metres away. Turns out the guy is a breeder, so I park on the side of the road to have a word with them. Thankfully they didn't get run over by some crazy driver.

Thanks! My sister has a Golden Retriever in the UK, so I have a soft spot for this breed in particular.

Same thing happened to me about 2 years ago but it was a mother duck and chicks (they looked like brown cotton balls) crossing the road. I blocked 2 lanes of traffic so she could cross the road and get to a lake with her chicks.

Excellent! You people have huge hearts. Thanks.

Years ago I had just walked out the front door and I saw something small scurrying down the middle of the street.

I caught up with it and it was a large red-eared turtle (called a slider in some parts). I picked it up (it was over 100F that day) and put him in the bath tub and went about my business for the rest of the day.

I found a friend at work that had a pond at his house and he agreed to take him. But on the day of the transfer, I noticed that the turtle had crust over his eyes; turtles are susceptible to upper respiratory infections. I couldn't let him go like that, so I took him to a vet.

I ended up having to give the turtle antibiotic injections (at home) for 7 days.

Long story short, I spent over $170 on a $10 pet store turtle.

This was over ten years ago. Yes, the turtle is still alive; he survived two raccoon attacks too.

I am tempted to bash the breeder for letting them get loose, but things happen even with competent, well motivated people. Good thing you were there.
