That quote simply says that they "use" PAO and Group V. It does not state that that they use only PAO and Group V basestocks, or that they do not use Group III. Mobil 1 also "uses" PAO and Group V.
I am not saying that they do use Group III - as I said in my post "No one knows". What I am saying is that they do not clearly and definitively deny it, which makes me suspicious. It seems to me if a company goes to the expense of formulating motor oils based exclusively on expensive high performing base oils like PAO and Group V, they would boast about it, as many companies did in the past before the wide use of Group III. After low cost Group IIIs swept the synthetic oil market, suddenly base oil types became "proprietary". Since all of their major oil company competitors know exactly what they are using, who are they keeping it secret from, and why?
I have no problem with RP, nor do I have any problem with Group IIIs - in fact I think the use of Group III is smart, and I use Mobil 1 which is mostly Group III+. My comments are not related to oil performance, but rather clever marketing language. People can believe whatever they want, just be aware that you are basing that belief of ambiguous marketing statements in the absence of any hard evidence.
