Been using Royal Purple HPS 5w30 in both. Used RP in Jeep since new and almost have an 3k OCI on the car. While I know RP's non API is great oil is it really worth the price to any top name brand full synthetic? Had 16 PPM of iron on previous UOA in Gladiator. 2k run but thinking that's a little high.

Looking at running the 5w30 Valvoline extended or restore and protect. Had a 06 Accord I ran 3 to 4k intervals with Valvoline conventional that ran 230k no issues before hail totaled it.

My experience with RP is going on 20 years old, so its pointless now, but for the money I feel like there are better choices. I'm a bit confused on your post, do you have 3000 miles on the Jeep and at 2000 miles you took a sample and it had 16ppm of iron? In that case I would assume you are still breaking in that engine and higher iron should be expected.

The car is nearing 3k which will put oil at 2500 figured one more short change then go 4k or so, but truck has 20k on it currently. At 19k when I last changed it the iron was 8 PPM per 1k.

OK - got it now. Yeah - I still think there are many other choice as good or better than the RP. As far as the Jeep, I'd look at the iron in other Pentastar engines. Lots of UOA on here for that engine. Its not crazy high, but its attention getting.

Absolutely. I know 8 per 1k while within normal limits its definitely on the threshold of being a little high. I figured with almost 20k it be in the upper single digits for a 3 to 4k OCI by now.

This is going in my new Gladiator next oil change.

the only thing you see here is Mobil 1 ESP, though Royal Purple is a fine oil among many other brands, Castrol EDGE Extended Performance, Valvoline Extended Protection, or Pennzoil ultra platinum, makes excellent oils if you interested, check out AMSOIL Signature Series and you can safely run more extended oci. Fram Ultra or Wix XP filters maybe a choice to consider .

Royal Purple is nothing special. It’s certainly not worth the extra cost over many other better options

The shelf stuff at Walmart is nothing special. The OP said he has been using the HPS version, if he posted the UOA you would see that the HPS version has higher levels of ZDDP than can earn API certs.

I would take Mobil 1 ESP over any version of Royal Purple. It’s one of the most overhyped oils out there. It’s for the Fast and Furious crowd

Ain't Nuthin' to "Restore" on a new car. Just order, yourself, a 5-quart jug of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, a $10 pack of toilet paper, and Walmart will deliver both, for free, to your door.

You’d be well served by the Valvoline choices you’re considering. Of course, you’d be well served by all of the other oil recommendations in this thread with sensible OCI’s. Take your pick. 😉🍻

Royal Purple HPS is a different oil blended to a higher spec over the pcmo ,both are fine oils for a specific market need, the pcmo is a competitive oil to other SQ,GF-7 brands and is not considered inferior, though more pricey, myself I can find better oils at Walmart ,only to fit my needs & there is no reason not to use RP oil, stop the usual bashing other oils than Mobil 1 ,which is a good oil too. Mobil 1 is not the only player on the market.

Nobody is bashing other oils than Mobil 1. There are many brands recommended in this thread. And they will give used oil analysis every bit as good as Royal Purple for less money.

I’m allowed to bash anyone I want, I don’t need you to try and tell me what I can and can’t say on here. I’m entitled to my opinion and I have strongly felt that RP is an overrated and overpriced oil.
