Why? If you're running that short of an OCI, there's no reason to use a synthetic. Any quality petroleum will give you all the protection you need. Look at Havoline, Chevron, or even good ol' Pennzoil conventional.quote:

I completelt agree, if he is going to stick to the 3000 miles oil change myth, go with a conventional oil.quote:

3. Synthetic is better than conventional
4. you get a slight hp/torq gain
5. better fuel economy with a syn.
6. Flows better especially at startup
7. synthetic provides less wear
8. its cheap insurance
9. just because I change my oil often does not mean that I have to use a conventional.
10. So you are trying to tell me that there is no benifit to run synthetic for only 3000 miles? Yeah right!
11. Its my engine and my wallet.
You say that it is ridiculous to change synthetic every 3000 miles, I don't thing so. I realize that the oil is capable of going much further. Even using a synthetic you are still going to get contaminants in the oil. So unless all you guys at least change your oil filter every 3000 miles. I think that 10000 oil changes is ridiculous. The oil can go 10000 miles but I think that is pushing it on a filter.
Lower wear numbers than a synthetic? Are you trying to tell me that I will get better wear numbers from a conventional?quote:

And who are you to say I don't know what I am talking about newb.quote:

Jtgrant. I don't think Blazerlt can educate someone about what synthetic oil is, because he clearly does NOT have a clue about what it is. Of course synthetic is better, and especially if you do more than 2000RPM on your engine once in a while. Most the reasons you listed up are correct. Additionally, your engine will be cleaner inside. Here in Europe, we don't see many cases of heavily sludged engines. Not even the Audi/VW 1.8 turbo. Do you know the reason why? Most of us use synthetic. Of course additive packets play a major role, but when it is used, synthetic still performs, dino don't.
Statistically insignificant would best describe your results. You may do slightly better on one or the other. You may like the performance and noise level on one more than the other. But the wear will vary and you cannot judge an oil by other peoples used oil analysis. There is some trending data in the used oil analysis section that does show less wear or corrosion in conventional runs.quote:

then have one down with conventional at 3000 miles.
There would be no difference in the wear numbers, given that both intervals were in the same conditions?
