Same here. It smells like no other oil. It almost kind`ve reminds me of the way atf smells.

Interesting- I thought I was the only one that smelled fresh oil when I open it.

I've only bought a few quarts of RP and I thought it was a very interesting color... but it smells pretty much like most other PAOs to me. Of course, my nose isn't nearly as sensitive as it was when I was young- probably due to smelling too much oil, gasoline, brake cleaner, carb cleaner, and all the other nasties in my garage... But it hasn't done me any harm!

Wow, with a TBN of 6.9 after 12k miles, I can't see why anyone would complain about paying an extra dollar for it!

I'm currently in an AutoRX rinse cycle, and can't wait to put it back in my motor. I thought GC was great, but it has never run as smooth or quit as it does with RP!

Let the children who's never used it but love to bash it keep complaining, their loss!

i am going to use royal purple for as long as i can afford it. although it has almost doubled in price over the last couple years which is upsetting.

You guys may think it smells good when new but trust me if it gets onto the engine or exhaust and starts burning you won't think so. Most god awful stink I have ever smelled. Had some drip onto the exhaust on my 04 Ram( tech forgot to tighten the drain plug and it worked loose some letting oil drip and get blown onto exhaust as I drove )and the smell was horrendous! Hard to explain. Kind of a hot wiring/hot brakes/burning oil kind of smell. Man was it awful.

I have noticed the price surging in parts chains like Pepboys and Advanced Auto but thankfully my source is still affordable( $5.75-$6.25 ). His price has held pretty steady now for about a year or so. Has only gone up about $1 p/qt through him over the last 2-2 1/2 years.

The Walmart Supercenter here has it for a lil over $6 a quart.
