I run my truck very hard. Everyday the first 45 miles of the commute are at 70+ miles per hour on the highway and then it's stop and go in traffic for 5 miles. There is a lot of gas and go and gas and stop and it's pretty severe in my opinion. I want to run a HDEO that won't sheer as much as a 5w30 or 10w30 that my truck calls for. In your opinion, what would be a nice oil to run? I do 3000K oil and filter changes. Thanks in advance.

If your truck calls out for SL oil run the rotella 5w-40. I am willing to bet a lot syn 5w-30 can go 5k with your driving.
My truck calls out SG, but I plan on dumping the 5w-40 into it. I won't know for a bout a year if it was a good choice or not.

The rotella syn (and dino) are pretty robust oils, I would say 5K are easily attainable, especially since you get the oil up to optimum temps and it stays there so the condensation and fuel can burn off. I am assuming the commute in the evening is just the opposite, so your highway runs are certainly a plus

What kind of truck is it, and how many miles? Your driving doesn't sound very hard, more like typical to me. Highway at 70+ is easy service and it sounds like the oil gets warmed up every day.
If your owner's manual calls for xW-30 then you will probably get the best service from a 30 weight oil. If you have a few miles on it then Valvoline Maxlife blend would be a very good choice.
In any case, though, I would not change it until at least 5k and probably more.
Using Rotella 5W-40 or similar would probably not be noticeably worse, but not better either.

That oil is a good one from my limited use, but your commute shouldn't be a problem to it at all. Most of your driving is with engine fully warmed. Piece of cake.

2007 Toyota Tacoma V6, 33k miles and I tow every weekend during the Spring, Summer and Fall. I can't tell you that the Summer months are brutal in traffic. Sometimes I can sit in traffic going home (end of the commute) for an hour before getting to the toll bridge. I'm sure an off the shelf oil will work just fine but the Rotella, Delo and Delvac looks really good.

I have verry low idle time 45-55mph for 10m then 3m of 25mph twice a day. Sundays are usally 200+mile round trips 85 to 90% higway.
Search the used oil form. I a few weeks (a month max) I'll be posting a 5k sample on the same oil.
Then I'll be runing Amsoil 10w-30 w/ eoa15 filter.

If you're dead set on HDEO, then look for a 10w-30 in your favorite brand. The pickins might be kind of thin, as availability of this is sometime scant in some areas.
But for the price of the HDEO, you could also find some 5w-30 or 10w-30 group III synthetic on sale, like at AAP or other retailer, and get excellent performance too.

Just pumped 5.5 quarts of 5w40 Rotella T Synthetic in her and replaced the filter with an oversized Purolator Premium. I just drove to the store and she sounded good to me. I guess the test will be tomorrow when I drive into work. Good Choice?
