I have a 2024 32ft long class C motor home that I bought that I’m trying to decide if Rotella T6 would be a good oil to run. I changed the oil when I first got it new at 1,600 miles used Mobil 1 Truck & SUV. Then I read a lot about how Valvoline Advanced full synthetic was a better oil than M1. Can’t find the M1 Truck & SUV anyway so my second oil change at 6,000 miles I went with the Valvoline Advanced. But, I use Rotella T6 in my Kubota diesel tractor and it got me thinking that maybe it would be a good option for the motor home due to the size and weight of it. Am I barking up the wrong tree here and better off staying with either Valvoline Advanced or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum?

It's good serviceable oil of course but I'd rather use 0/5w-40 euro or diesel or even 10w-30 diesel. That 5w-30 t6 is about 12 bucks more compared to M1 esp or shell t6 5w-40 so I don't see the value proposition. I'm using quaker state euro 5w-40 and it's been great, engine's very quiet at hot idle now. Have to order it since it's online only but walmart has free shipping. I use 15w-40 in my trucks but they never have to crank in any cold.

I would use a top shelf 5w-30 or 5w-40 meant for gasoline engines. There is nothing inherently different about the oil requirements of your 7.3l just because it's in a motor home. T6 will work fine, but not significantly different than a premium Pennzoil, Mobil 1, etc.

Thanks all. I guess it’s a coin toss between Valvoline Advanced and PUP. Although I’ve been using PUP in my 2020 Jeep Wrangler 3.6 since I bought it new and it runs well. I got some specimen jars from Blackstone so I’ll send in a sample from the 7.3 at the next change.

The Valvoline Advanced Synthetic 5W30 will be just fine.

Get whatever is cheaper for you. I’ve run the T6 in everything from tractors to my 225sho boat engine. It’s a great oil. I have a coworker that runs it in absolutely everything from his Mercedes to 3.0l diesel suburban to tractors to work trucks and high output cars. He’s always liked it and gets it by the drum so he sticks with it. No oil issues yet.

I am not sure that the oil you spoke of is SP. Correct me if I am wrong, but the 7.3 is a direct injection engine, correct? I would not use any oil that had high calcium.

I would use Amsoil 10w30 Signature series. SP, low Noack, 3.5 HTHS, and you might not even have to change it but once a year. The reason I would recommend 10w over 5w, is the Noack number.

Some hear suggest that NOACK has nothing to do with deposits, I disagree.

For the price of the rig, Amsoil is cheap.

7.3 is port injection not direct

I wouldn't even consider BROtella. It failed D892 foam testing miserably and shears out of grade in high load applications. It's as low buck, bare minimum effort oil as you could make.

Off the shelf, a Euro 5W-40 will be a better formula for the same price or cheaper. From boutique brands, Red Line HP 5W-40, Driven DT 5W-40, Amsoil Premium 10W-40, or HPL No VII Euro 10W-40 would be top shelf options.

I never understand why people want to use a diesel oil in a gas engine. Different oils for different applications. Of course you can use it without any problems. But it's not optimum.
I don't know why you say, "Of course you can use it without any problems." T6 is no longer rated as an API class S gasoline motor oil for some good reason.

But it is still rated for wet clutch.........which is still puzzling me. I know no diesel motorcycles with shared sumps.

I personally wouldn’t spend the extra money or go out of my way to find T6 5w30MV. Any full synthetic Xw30 that meets the specification changed regularly will be more than adequate protection. Bump up to a Xw40 weight if you want additional film thicknes.
