In a release obtained by The Huffington Post, Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the driver, identified as Jeffrey Travis White, was later charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash.

"Using information contained in the video provided by the witness, State Troopers located White at his Tampa residence and arrested him for Leaving the Scene of a Traffic Crash, Careless Driving and failing to wear his seatbelt," the FHP release notes.

Exactly.

I have to wonder how much this lady egged the guy on before the video started. She was stupid for not just pulling over and slowing down, and he was an idiot for trying to pull such stunts.

He got what he deserved, but Ill bet that she will soon as well.

Regardless of if cellphone use is legal in FL or not, she wasnt using a cellphone, she was effectively using a video recorder, handheld, while driving. That to me constitutes careless driving as well, and I do wich they would throw the book at her too.

Guess what? There is no law against video taping a perp. Now if she was videotaping a law officer, she would be in jail or worse.

Just because there isn't a sign posted doesn't mean it's not the right thing to do. Clogging up the road intentionally is discourteous, legal or not.

Just because something is legal does not make it okay. Traffic laws in many places are archaic and do not cover the types of undesirable driving behavior that have become more prevalent with more people behind the wheel, more phones, and more detachment from the act of driving.

I encounter these "I have to be in front of everybody so I can drive slow and play on my phone!" types all the time and they are a menace. You try to show any courtesy to them, and it backfires with having a slow, cellphone obsessed driver in front of you who moves erratically, is unaware of the fact their vehicle is equipped with turn signals, etc. I have no sympathy for her...I am tired of plain bad driving being condoned just because "I am going the speed limit!"

Fine enough if she wanted to stay in the left lane, she didn't get the finger until she started racing him and it was blatantly obvious she was.

X2. She was definitely being passive aggressive, and was definitely baiting for a reaction. She got what she was after.

The fact that she apparently habitually takes out her phone to record other drivers suggests to me that she is seeking this stuff out. It fulfills some hole in her life to get into confrontations with other drivers. Her reaction at the end of the video is telling.

As others have suggested, one thing that concerns me is that with this video going viral, other like-minded people may attempt the same thing to get their 15 minutes of fame. And they may go to greater lengths to cause an incident so they can get enough views on YouTube to feel good about themselves and get paid.

I'm going with both are idiots.

How long she was in the left lane doesn't matter. If you watch the video , you see a left turn lane when the idiot loses control. So it was not a limited access road.

So I'm going with the idiot truck driver who didn't realize he wasn't driving a sports car when he decided to cut her off.
So you camp in the left as well I assume.

I have never seen any non limited access highway marked as "keep right unless passing". Only freeways get marked like that and not the roads which have left turns. If that is the case in NorthEast, I am positive that Florida does NOT have those markings on that particular road.

" Why does the woman he's raging against appear to speed up when he is trying to pass? Is she egging him on?

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, spoke to WTSP to give her side of the story. She said she sped up to match the speed limit increase on that section of road. She was driving safely, she said, keeping an eye on her mirrors and the road

Not required in my state if the road is not limited access.

Regardless of what you wish they would do, they can't "throw the book" at her as she broke no Florida law.

Sobering reminder of how dangerous an activity driving is. Nothing amusing about this. No winner here. The woman thinks she "won", but she only ended up embarrassing herself, big time.

Thanks for posting this, that we may be reminded of life's cruel realities, to learn from the errors of these two persons. This viewing was a cold dose of reality.

Driver of the pickup reminds me of my next door neighbor, who literally drinks 12 Mt. Dews every day and always "edgy" due to all of the corn syrup and high caffeine content.

"Goosfraba" my friends.

Deep breaths, count to ten, calm down, be patient. Life is so much easier when we realize we're all on the same road taking the same journey.

Smell the roses, pet a stray dog, play games with little children, hold the door open for others, stop and talk with the homeless, wave at crossing guards.

In a world of brake checks, tailgaters and road hogs, relax, understand, empathize. Enjoy the journey.

The fact that that lady is laughing posts the video and writes about Karma is so disturbing to me.

Even if I was right and other driver wrong I would have guilt given she was egging this person on and not simply moving over.

I read the CNN version and he was arrested. I think he may have been drinking since he got charged with leaving the scene of accident, driving to endanger and not wearing seatbelt.

It surely wouldn't bother me if driving laws pushed higher levels of driver training and more than a the silly test we have every six years here in Kansas.

They send you an 8 page pamphlet and you take it with you so you can refer to it to make it easy to pass the test.

In this day when airline pilots train on computer simulators every week I think this kind of strategy would help improve everyday and 'professional' drivers.

They could have web based driver simulators and make that part of the test, or at least part of the training.

She left the scene of an accident for which she is partly to blame by being passive aggressive. Alas, there is no Florida law related to it either.

In Germany they both would have been crucified for their stupidity.

In Ontario, her little trick probably falls under the "stunting/racing" law (as does his) and it is quite possible for them both to lose their license and be fined several thousand dollars. Also, using a phone while driving like she did is illegal up here, and is a separate fine.

Ontario law about "stunting/racing" here:

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/regs/english/elaws_regs_070455_e.htm

Quote:
8. Driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, without reasonable consideration for other persons using the highway or in a manner that may endanger any person by,
i. driving a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates an intention to prevent another vehicle from passing,

Exactly. The fact that FL law has no relevant statute doesn't change that it's unsafe and that she shares some blame in the situation, her intrinsically unsafe behaviors of distracted driving, and the fact that she knowingly was part of the situation that led to the accident, yet apparently left. Wouldn't she want to show the cops that arrived her video to help them ticket the guy? Coward.

Reminds me why I try to avoid Florida and don't have that.great of feeling of it as a state.
