no i know the result, it stopped oil burning from one of my accords. HPL Engine Cleaner is fully formulated 30w or 40w oil meant to be diluted with other oil.

So you know that it works well with Valvoline's proprietary unknown technology that cleans carbon from ring lands? We know what EC is but not Valvoline Restore and Protect.

I’ve been running it in my Ram the last few changes. Ran a couple analyses on it. Really don’t like how thin it is coming back. I don’t want to get into the thin vs thick debate but 5w-20 is already thin enough for my liking and this seems to be a thin 5w-20. Considering going back to Pennzoil Ultra. YMMV
Yes, they are FULLY formulated motor oils with some cleaning action. These aren’t harsh solvent cleaners you dump in for 10mins before an oil change.That is it.

This has crossed my mind - but that oil will not stop EC30/40 from working - and the Valvoline Restore and Protect is average priced SP oil anyway …

The observation of the oil coming out thin seems nebulous compared to "couple of analysis" you ran on it. What were the results? Also, does your vehicle take up to 5W30? That's what I run my Hyundai/Kias that call for 5W20
Just had a thought, anyone here think about using Lucas oil stabilizer or similar product with the Valvoline Restore and Protect (or similar cleaning oils like HPL)? The rationale could be simply allowing more persistent cleaning to take place due to the stabilizer providing additionall

I've used Lucas oil stabilizer before and while I'm not a hater, I don't think it's worth the price in most normally working engines. It barely helps with oil burners, at least in my experience with it.

Don't put that stuff into a motor you value.
Most of their PDS sheets say the same NOACK number.
I ran ec30 in 3 vehicles and it cleaned the sludge up nicely in 2 but I couldn’t imagine it doing anything for ring deposits as it didn't make any difference in varnish. Just run the Valvoline Restore and Protect and save the $10 for the next jug of Valvoline Restore and Protect oil change. Or buy HPL oils and let it clean as they clean better than the EC's.
It did really nothing for varnish in 5k oci. I'd imagine carbon stuck rings would be tougher to clean than varnish. The oil would be better for the rings as hpl even states the oil cleans better. The ec is just a preclean for the oils.
These oils take time to do their thing indeed. Much reason to believe rings are getting cleaned due to the filter cut/inspects posted here and my own observations, at least with HPL anyway. I’m watching this Valvoline Restore and Protect closely, very interesting stuff.
Valvoline specs state the viscosity for the Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 is 8.4. Expect it to shear down some from there on a used oil analysis.
Valvoline specs state the viscosity for the Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30 is 10.8 which to me is right in the sweet spot. If you don't want to jump to the 5w30 you could mix the two to get the viscosity you are looking for.
I don't see any point in waiting for a car to get get coked or sludged up. I applaud all reasonable attempts to keep engines clean and oil consumption down. Valvoline Restore and Protect is a very reasonable way to do it.
I'm up to 4000 miles on my 5 cylinder Volvo with Restore and Protect 5w30. It's still consuming more than it did with Mobil 1 0w-40 and Castrol Professional 5w30.
I consumed about a quart in 4000 miles with those. The Valvoline Restore and Protect is more like a quart in 2000 miles. It's either because it is thinner, or the rings are getting worse.
I'm changing the oil at 6000 and will give it at least that one more OCI with Valvoline Restore and Protect.
The positive is the oil makes the engine idle very smoothly.
