Since these are NLA, anyone have a line on a replacement filter that's compatible. Same size or larger, same gasket size, same thread. Thanks.

This is sorta odd. Wix has no x-ref for this filter. But if you put in Baldwin's xref you get the 51344 (NAPA 1344).

btw- when Purolator discontinues a filter, it's usually noted when you look it up. This has no such notation on their site

Thanks for the info. I tried the 20073 and it leaked because the gasket was too large for the mounting surface on my B16A powered CRX. The 24458 worked perfectly though, I wonder why they would discontinue it?? Pep Boys says the 24458 was replaced by 24459 but they didn't have that filter instock. Any info on this?

Just looked on Purolator's site and they show that the 24458 is superceded by the smaller 14459.

The 20073 works perfect on a 1996-2000 Civic (DX, LX, EX and Si)

The 24458 was discontinued early last year, some people have said that Sears with tire center/quick lube still have some leftover 24458.

BTW,

The Mobil M-105 oil filter is oversized for Hondas/Acuras.

I went to PepBoys asking for the Proline 24458 (made by Purolator) and they had them .....but they we taken off the shelf and behind the counter. PepBoys was using them for fleet sales.

I may have found a solution for you. If you go to the Fram site x-reference, they give you the part number PH3953a (14459 equivalent) and the PH5046. If you then go to the Wix filter site x-reference, they give you 51568 as their match for the PH5046.

This 51568 filter is 3.234" diameter and 4" tall, slightly larger than the 24458, with a relief valve setting of 16psi.

If you then go to the purolator site and type in 51568, it gives you L24458 as the x-reference! Also, the Wix 51344 x's with the L24458 also.

Given all that, you may want to try a Wix 51568 or 51344. If you must stick with Purolator, then 14459 may be your only option, unless you have room to go with the VERY oversized 14619 (slightly larger gasket here too).

My Luber-Finer catalog cross-references the Purolator 24458 to a L-F #PH2808, which x-ref's to a Wix #51334. Yes, 51334 (NOT 51344).

Here are the specs on the Wix 51334:

Part Number: 51334
UPC Number: 765809513341

Let us know how it works out for you.

I usually see a full row of L24458 sitting at my Sears auto centers some in old boxes others in current.

24459 (w/an "L" or "PL" en frente de, btw) doesn't exist according to Wix, Baldwin, Donaldson, and Purolator.

I use the Napa 1344's. The 1334's are smaller.

PL24458/PH3807a:
Wix/Napa/Carquest/...51344
Baldwin B161s
Donaldson 502051
K&N HP-1006
Hastings LF386

Anyone have specs on the Amsoil EAO36? Motorcraft FL799?

I use the PL24458 for my 1988 Mazda 323GTX and I'm bummed that they discontinued it.
Anyone up for petitioning Purolator to keep it around?
AFAIK, the only car the filter is speced for is a 1988 Mazda MX6 turbo. Maybe the 626 and Probe GT?

On the mazda 323 forum someone mentioned thast the 1990-95 Corvette ZR-1 filter fit. Purolator p/n (P)L14619. It's about as tall as a L24458 and has the same OD as a PH8A/FL1A/L30001 Ford filter. Same gasket size as a Ford filter too, bigger than the L24458, the L14619 gasket ID matches the L24458 OD...

But looking at the spec's in the other thread it looks like the L20073 would be the best replacement for the L24458.
What do you guys think?

edit: And I forgot to mention that I got a M1 M-104 filter that looked about the same size as a PL24458. That's what Mobil says fits a '88 Mazda 626 turbo.

Here's a pic of a PL14619 (on the left) and a PL24458 on the right.
You can click on the pics to see them fullsize.

And here's a shot of the mounting surface. I lost the gasket to the PL24485 so I just colored it in with pencil to make it easier to see.
