Looking for a decent $2,000ish 2 post lift. I've seen some eBay Chinese lifts for $1500ish and I really don't want a cheap junk lift. I've seen some used Rotary lifts for 2K, and I know they are quality lifts but not sure how much life they have left in them. Asymmetrical or symmetrical doesn't matter to me.

Asymmetrical makes it easier getting in and out and cuts down on door dings. I have a 4 post and would love a 2 post except lack the room. Whatever you get make sure it's a certified lift.

Atlas seems to be a popular option at that price point.

If it were me, I'd probably buy a Direct Lift for a few $$s more: http://www.directlift.com/Two-Post-Lift-DL9-P73C8.aspx

Direct Lift is owned by the same company as Rotary (as is Forward). Vehicle Service Group.

I have a VSG predecessor to the Forward I10 and it's a great lift. Made overseas, but it's got the gold ALI sticker. I paid $1200, used a few years ago. I'm just a hobbyist, so it gets used a couple times a week at most, so it's been great for my use.

There's a bunch of good lift info over at garagejournal.com

Nylon Sliders Guides.....What actually makes contact with the Lift Posts as the Carriage assemblies move up & down, Are wear items. They are cheap & easy to replace while the lift is disassembled/laid down. If the lift hasn't had a Inspection in a couple years or longer......Replace the Sliders while it's laid down!!!
The Equalization Cables & Cable Rollers need to be inspected.

If the below components are worn/need replacement......Move on....Don't buy it. Or at least negotiate the price!
*Swing Arms & Carriage can wear at the Support Pin, The Support Pin itself can also wear but the Carriage & Arms go first.
*If the Post/Column Bases are covered in dirt & oil......The Lift Cylinders are likely leaking, Though they can be resealed & cheaply if you do it yourself.
*Have a temporary way to apply power to the Motor......Have the installer bleed, adjust, & raise a vehicle on the lift before paying for it! Power Units (Motor/Pump/Reservoir) are expensive.

I just bought a used 2003 10,000# Rotary for $2,400 installed that had been inspected in the last 9 months & is in good shape.
Large dealerships & Independent Garages as well have their lifts inspected yearly for liability/insurance reasons.

I also bought a 1984 7,000# Ammco for $500 that needs one of the Carriages repaired. The lock slots on the back of one carriage got damaged. A couple hours, 3/16" plate, & a welder will fix it.

I'd look for a good used Mohawk lift. I have a 10k 2-post lift, and if I live another 50 years, I doubt I'd wear it out. One of the shops I used to work in has a 10k 2-post Mohawk going on 30 years old, and it's used every (business) day. Nothing has worn out on it yet.

I called them the other day after looking through some older BITOG threads. They wanted $7500 for the base 2 post lift to Kansas. WAY out of budget.

Danmar Max Jack, they are sold at a discount at various times in the year from the company direct. Mine has changed my life, I do things now I never would have attempted b4. Yes its meant to be portable and I struggled getting it secure to begin with but I have now removed and also added various widths of bolt holes to my floor so I can access different vehicles differently and I can say that part is just another bonus to it. Plus if I ever move it will be coming with. Only true shortcoming is the shorter lift height, but I have a 9.5 garage ceiling so its actually exactly enough for me.

Yes, there is nothing cheap about them. You get what you pay for. But there is a possibility you can find a good used unit. Lots of municipalities use them, and some of those politicians love to spend taxpayer money. So the old stuff has to go...

prolly mostly chinese but good enough for the money, gotta check the height + well as shipping costs + many require reinforced concrete.

They are pretty nice.....Uses steel rollers instead of nylon shoes on the Carriages.
