RC Cola pricing

I have one 12oz can of RC Cola for dinner every night, it’s one of my vices. I usually buy the 12 pack at Winco ( west coast store) for $5.48. It’s usually the cheapest priced soda compared to the other brands, Coke and Pepsi usually sell for $7.87. In the last six months the price of RC has been all over the board at Winco. It goes up to $9.48, while Coke and Pepsi is at its normal price of $7.87. The next week, RC is back down to $5.48. I stopped by there today to buy some and it was $8.48, while Coke and Pepsi were down to $6.97. I refuse to buy soda over $6.00 a 12 pack. I don’t like soda out of a plastic bottle, it has to be out of a can, or fountain drink.

The two other big chains, Safeway and Fred Meyer(Kroger) want $11.99 for a 12 pack. They sometimes have buy 2 get 2 free going on. The kicker with that is, those stores are lucky to stock four 12 packs on the shelves, RC isn’t big enough to take shelf space from the big two.

We've moved to generic, Summit. It's at Aldi. It's $5 / case.

The cola companies pay big bucks for shelf space. It's even mentioned in We Didn't Start the Fire:

"Rock and Roll, the cola wars, I can't take it anymore."

Stock up when it's cheap.

Yes, but what about the additive packages in Coke and Pepsi? Have you sent a sample of RC in to the lab for testing?

We now have knock offs of Coke Zero. I can’t pass a blind test. Ace K for the win!

Some time ago I read that grocers (or suppliers) play this game of alternating prices between brands.

Haven't seen RC here on the east coast for decades. Thought it was gone. It was always my favorite especially with a Moonpie!

I would buy a lemon or lime and give my water a jazz up before paying those prices. kind of reminds me of those stories from way back when cigarettes were 50 cents everyone was quitting when they went to 75 cents lol and if cancer hast taking them out they're still smoking 10 bucks later.

Here in Florida it’s very rare to see RC soda.

It’s a good tasting cola.

I've likely been a T2D since and maybe even before 30 years of age. I have no absolute proof of this, because I only have done A1C for 5-6 years now - but I have circumstantial evidence. The strongest clues are when my wife was pregnant, and had gestational D. She ate very low carbs, and so did I, I got lean pretty quickly.The other tidbit - mentioned in another thread - strongly insulin resistant indicates long time this way. Another clue may be my A1C statistically does not change much, really I'm thinking it...

"Calendar Marketing Initiative." Coke and Pepsi have coordinated so they will never both be on sale at the same time in the same store. Somehow that is legal.

Look up dynamic pricing. The big stores are trying to be Amazon to jack around prices to optimize profits. Yes it’s a thing even at brick and mortar.

It was selling at the dollar tree for $1.25 for 2 liter bottle a few weeks ago. The last time I went it was gone, replaced by Faygo

I was a Pepsi drinker for 30 years. I feel they changed the formula before covid, and it didn’t taste the same to me. That’s when I switched to RC. I tried the 3rd tier sodas and I don’t like them.

RC Cola is a nostalgic brand for me as my Nana would get it for us grandkids, but I just can't do those sugary drinks any more. My joints and inflammation are so much better since I gave up simple carbs and sugar.

Sodas and tobacco are two things which are foolish to consume.

C'mon people, these products and garbage food are on the NOGO list for known reasons.

Royal Crown's and Plymouth's 'heart with the arrow' logos on outfield signs in Shea Stadium -think 1969- do take me back.
