hector,

you didnt use all 5 quarts did you? since the car takes ~4.8 on an oil change....
Request a sample bottle from Blackstone and dump whats left into the sample & send it off for a virgin oil analysis (VOA), then post up the results on this forum.

Thats step one if you want people to consider the oil seriously.

I think it's nice that the general we are giving this company a chance. There are things that I like and don't like about PurOl from what we can find:

Likes:
-they tell us that they use Group V base oil
-seem to have a loyal following (at least locally).
-color coding bottle lids (this is a nice touch IMO).

Dislikes
-no msds or tech data available on website
-not API registered (they probably either don't want to pay for the testing or don't want to pay the royalties - but that also risks that they don't meet current specs)
-pricing (msrp of $20.55/qt is outrageous)

It seems that there are lots of small blenders who get completely ignored here because we are so loyal to the majors, and some popular boutique oils. I for one would like to welcome some more specialty oils into the market, especially if they have the ability to perform as good or better than the classic favorites. There are hundreds of small companies which are API approved which we never even talk about here. Just see this list on API.org (when you bring up a company click on the donut to see a list of their approved products).

I look forward to seeing the VOA/UOA results - although one set of samples does not make up for the complete lack of technical data available by the company.

That would be appreciated. If you can, make sure to get a vis at 40C and 100C, along with TBN and TAN. We would be able to tell quite a bit about the oil with that data, as they typically don't do all 4 of them on a basic $25 VOA. Thanks.

Thanks for the input guys

-test kit on its way
- only have acces to a sell sheet at the moment/ trying to get more info hopfully emailed today.
- trying t o get a VOA (in works)
- I get dealership is NOT hyundai but for ANY new oil company its a step in the right direction IMO.
- yeah price is an issue...im sure it will come down in order to move

Thats it so far. More to come.

Really interested to see this.. I think it's a big ole fraud.. Cause if something SO great was out there why would Amsoil or Royal Purple or Redline not have already done it to charge 20+ dollars a qt.. Which is outrageous..

Easy answer.. It's nothing different than what's been done before and is just overpriced for hype.

Let's get back to the basics to make sure everything is on the up and up here. Do you have some sort of receipt showing the purchase price and 5 quarts of it? Or an email confirmation/invoice. Maybe you were given this stuff in exchange for some promotion. Which is fine if you properly disclose that.

Thanks for that Hector and for your service in the military!

From California City to Edwards is a very pleasant drive I know. No traffic to speak of.

I will give this oil the benefit of a doubt in so far as quality alone is concerned. Chances are it is of good quality compared to other synthetics. But with Amsoil, Red Line, Royal Purple, and the other boutique oils out there, I do not see it competing as to price, even if it comes close to these as to quality. Its reputation is totally unknown to the average guy on the street.

At this stage in the game, it is way too expensive. The company that makes it seems to do very little promotion of it. I would see no need to buy it.

I sent them an email, but never got a reply.

None of the below should be interpreted as apologetics for how this company is presenting themselves just my perspective.

Maybe the ones who withhold data are the smart ones. Cutthroat business so why give away info? (Customer service DOES DEMAND, however, at least a reply.) I suspect these guys know that mostly "informed" users (e.g. Racers grapevine) will buy this oil if it is REALLY GOOD (maybe at "preferred" pricing) so why put info out there? And who reads PDS's except guys like us? Their competitors will probably analyze the chemistry themselves if they consider Puröl a threat (which I suspect they don't-- just a small, niche player). How many average Joe's and Jolene's who go to Cerritos Hyundai for service will opt for a $125+ oil change?

Well some companies probably have a small valid point in not providing it because it becomes a numbers game and that can be a problem.

Hey guys. I just got the Blackstone test kit in today. I'll get a VOA of the PurOl 5w30. I know the standard test is $25, but I want to get as much info as I can for yall guys? What exacly do I need to ask for?

Such a shame. From what I'm reading, I'd like to give this oil a try but if it holds no API certs and there are no actual VOA or UOA, it looks like it'll be out of reach for my car for now. At least until warranty period is over.

Really? You're re-opening a three year old thread? Ha ha... I was reading this with interest till I saw how old it was!!!

It's the only thread dedicated to PurOl that I saw. Some say to stop opening new threads. Some say these threads are too old and dead. Either way, they're kind of price-y and just e-mailed a reseller of the oil to see if it does indeed have API certifications or if it just a statement that it exceeds API without actual backing.
