What performance difference (if any) between the Pure One and Mobil 1 oil filters ? Any specific reasons why you would choose one over the other ? I'm planning to do a 7,500 mile / 6 month OCI with either Mobil 1 or PP in my Buick . The Pure One spiked my interest because of the non slip coating and due to my Buick 3.1L oil filter being located in an awkward location to install .

You could use either one with confidence but I think you pay more for the Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter for a reason. It is a very well constructed filter with a thicker can, semi-synthetic filtering media and a better bypass system. If you want a better quality filter M1 is the obvious choice. It is hard to argue but there are a lot of diehard Pureone fans on BITOG, but if you laid the M1 and the P1 on a table and said "take your pick", I think most would choose the M1.

7500 miles territory is accepted interval for many traditional constructed filters too. I do stash the yellow grippy filters, and my size cross reference is actually quite larger than the motorcraft and the m1 equivalent. m1's are 2 for $20 on advance auto BTW.
Price is not a problem then M1, good value for 7-8k OCI then P1

With the current rebate ($3.00 off each, for up to 12 filters), you can get P1 for $2-ish (depending on the size) a piece from Amazon. I see no reason to go with M1, if it is just for 7500 miles.

Honestly, I'd choose the P1 between those two regardless of price or OCI. Purolator are very forthcoming with beta ratio, flow rate and capacity of all of their filters. XOM aren't--it's basically 'take our word for it, it's a good filter'. I'm sure it is a good filter, but I'd want some more specifics before using it (and paying a premium price for it). "Two times the capacity of the leading brands" are just weasel words to me. I realize I'll get branded as a "hater" for saying something negative about XOM, but the bottom line is that I prefer to buy from a company that is forthcoming which specific information when I ask about a product. Ford, RP and Purolator have been, XOM have not.
For a 7,500 mile OCI, any filter will work fine if your engine is in good condition--so I'd choose the one that offers the best flow and filtration, and meets any other specific requirements of your application.

If money was really no object then take an Ea filter from your stash.
The Mobil 1 is,probably,"better" than the P1,but I don't think the difference will alter the longevity of your motor. I only use the Mobil 1 because I can get 5 quarts of Mobil 1 Extended Performance and an Mobil 1 filter for $35 at AZ. I wouldn't hesitate to use a P1. 02.

Thanks for the replies ...My first experience with a Mobil 1 filter as a result of AZ special (Mobil 1 filter + 5 qrts. Mobil 1 synthetic) . Due to a very awkward install location on my Buick , I had to make sure my hands had no oil what so ever on them and the Mobil 1 filter housing was clean so I could maintain a good solid grip for the install . From this perspective the P1 filter is more appealing due to the grip surface . On the other hand , I'm not taking anything away from the Mobil 1 filter - very solid and obviously well built. It sounds like either one would do for my 6 month / 6500 ~ 7500 mile OCI application .
For 7500 mile OCI's, P1's are perfectly fine... Very good filter regardless of price.

I probably have used more Mobil 1 filters than anyone at BITOG. I started using them when they first came out. I have a friend that does 15K OCIs with 5-30EP and the Mobil 1 filter. When cut open the filter still looks great, so shorter OCIs are a snap for this 1. With all this said, if you plan to do shorter OCIs(5-10K) P1 will be fine. Also the price of Mobil 1 filters are too high if you buy them outright. IMO.

Ah,yes,Cowboy...but we do have the facts on BITOG! Look at BT Anchors series of OA's. The M1 clearly filters better than the P1. The interesting thing,and my point,is,no matter which filter BT uses,the wear metals in the oil are virtually the same!! FZ1 is the Extreme,Baby!

we must have very different definitions for "clearly better"...
used oil analysis with particle counts can certainly offer some insight, but I think the guy who did the testing would be pretty quick to mention the limitations of that sort of testing. That's why it's nice to have certified, repeatable tests--and I why I like manufacturers and distributors who publish this data. As I said, I think the Mobil 1 filter is probably a fine filter, but until XOM publish these results from these standardized tests, I'm not going to go out of my way to buy the filter.
