What’s the current consensus on Mobil 1 filters?

Appreciate that explanation! Do you, in your opinion, think the STP XL filter is in the same tier as these? It seems solid and I get them very low cost.
IMO, yes. Seem to be identical to MGSelect, CQP, and the other XL filters from premium guard.

ETA: I should mention, I’d check your application. For my truck and wife’s telluride, the STP XL appears identical to CQPs (made in Vietnam, Korea and Mexico). However, the STP XLs for my daughter’s Santa Fe were definitely a different design (made in China).

Yes???? And nothing had been said about the OE filter.

The OE is good too.. you use that silver Mann ? The only downside is their media is lower efficiency ..... around 99@40 but is it going to matter? I don't know.

I see a lot of people are saying these are made by premium guard. The last 2 I got were made in South Korea. Could Pentius be making some of these?

American made have the seam area painted not plain on all Ive seen. The Asian manufacturers copy Purolator a lot for some reason, but not Fram. The holes sometimes, the double base plate, even the Boss media but with thinner backing and unknown fiber material. The Boss isn’t glass, another +++. Sometimes they copy Toyota filters.

Your passive aggressive way of framing words is funny when it comes to the "Asian Manufacturers". You get your little jabs in of "copy this, copy that" quite a lot like oil filter design is some static intellectual property that does not come off patent and the domestics do not copy each other when it does.

People will say it's "Premium Guard", but I doubt that's actually true because they are made under Highline Warren, and Highline Warren has no connection to Premium Guard Inc (PGI) that I can find. If someone can find any connection, post up the info. Highline Warren is connected to 'Prime Guard", not Premium Guard.

Yes, the new Mobil 1 looks like PGI made filters, but Highline Warren can contract the same factories in Asia to make these new Mobil 1 filters.
Yep - they are only a distributor of Mobil 1 filters …

I just bought a Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter at Walmart to do the oil change for my girlfriend's car and it says 99% at 30 microns on the box (!). I thought these were supposed to be 25 microns? Country of origin is South Korea for this 102A.

You're probably thinking of the MicroGard Selects being 99% @ 25u. Mobil 1 filters have been rated at 99% @ 30u for a long time, even when Mann+Hummel was making them before Highline Warren took over the contract with Mobil.

Ah, I think you're right and I've got them mixed up. Efficiency isn't the best but the build quality looks good!

That’s not 508.00 approved.

ESP 0w30 (VW 504) would work just fine, possibly be better. Some VW dealers will fill with a 30wt if requested. Slightly lower TBN so maybe not go the full 10k on an oil change. If I still had my Passat I would switch in a heart beat.
