I dont want to attack valvoline or anything else. But here is my experience.
First I bought the bosch filter and syn power on a oil change deal at oriellys.
Well the bosch filter was defective. Ive heard they were decent so no harm no foul. Engine sounded better with new filter (wix)
Then my wife came out and said that engine sounds rattly not sure thats even a word.
so I listened closely and it was then over night sitting got timing chain rattle and valve clatter maybe lifter to at cold start up went away pretty quick.
then once it warmed uo the engine sounded clattery.
just loud over all.
When I got home I grabbed the jug of valvoline still had 1qt in the jug and read the label it is 5w30 , I thought maybe I grabbed 5w20 by accident, then I felt the oil it did feel thin. Very thin. And dry. Not very slick.
I grabbed a jug I have of 5w30 mobil 1 it felt noticablly thicker and slicker.
I decided to drain out the oil and start fresh with mobil 5000.
Engine now sounds great it very quiet. No abnormalities.
I am no trying to bash ive used valvoline plenty of times. With no issues. Maybe I got a bad batch? I dont know im actually very confused.

Some engines just seem to prefer one oil over another. I suspect no harm was done, and that you can stick with the Mobil 5000 without any worries.

This.

^^This. My 3000GT's engine ran rough and noisy on synth. Smooth and silent on dino. Changed back and forth a few times to verify. My gf's Olds was the same way.

I have more noise with Synpower over Edge FST. I try to become "one" with my vehicle so I notice a lot, My Charger's engine has noticeably more chatter than my other Charger (both same year same engine) on ANY oil. A recent UOA showed very good wear IMO so I am not worried. I sleep well with any major brand oil in my engine.

I had the exact same experience this weekend, but between VWB and now MS5K. Much smoother ( and I'm a Valvoline fan).

I used Synpower in my gfs Mustang yesterday from VWB. VWB is definitely smoother. Going back to dino next oil change. Probably GTX or PYB this time. Her car just runs smoother on dino. Motorcraft filter always as well.

I've found Synpower and its blue sister VR1 to be very smooth and quiet in our Forester, although the UOA I did was nothing to brag about.
It may be that the engine in question just seems smoother and quieter on M1.
Plenty of posters have complained about M1 making their engines seem less smooth and louder, although I never saw this myself with M1.
Synpower seems like it may not be the blend for your engine.
Just use something else.

I just think either some engines don't like the *thinner* characteristics of synth,or just don't *like* the chemistries/add packs?

I've had engines make more noise from various oils or maybe consume some but never that amount of noise. It was bad enough it had me worried that there was a timing chain issues or something. It was bad.
I guess my car hates expensive oil. It's had pennzoil Dino and high mileage it's whole life.
But this car down right hated syn power.
Never had an engine make such a dramatic change between oils.

My 3000GT hated synth to the point that when I started it from a cold start,it sounded like hammers beating on something metallic. Talk about scary!!

Had a similar issue with Service Pro oil...ran strange. I agree with it really is up to the engine...

Though I have good luck with ashland products.....

My problem with Synpower is the price. That's why I like Napa Synthetic, because it's rebranded Synpower and on sale for $3.49 this month.

I wonder how Napa synth 15W50 compares to Synpower 20W50 and Mobil 1 15W50?

Gee! I just bought a 5qt jug of Valvoline NextGen Synthetic 5W30. The spec's show to be the same as Valvoline SynPower 5W30(side-by-side). I'm not sure which engine I am going to use it in. I was thinking that I'll use it in my wifes RX-300(1MZFE) for the winter w/PureOne Filter. Hmmm!

After i ran the MS5K for a week, it was the same as the VWB. No difference, both felt great (seat of the pants).
