Forgot to post this a couple of weeks ago. I took advantage of the BOGO techron at advance and poured one in the tank and the other in the trunk. Temperature here went to 5 degrees F. which isnt extreme.

Wife noticed a bad smell in the car and found that the bottle of techron in the trunk froze and busted..what didnt freeze spilled out into the trunk.

Threw the busted bottle away and there were chunks of ice in bottle.

Ice= water. Why water in techron?

So either I had a bad batch or there is water in techron.

sorry to hear that. will be interesting to find out what is in the product that made it freeze.

The MSDS says it's insoluable in water and the list of ingredients shows petroleum distillates as the base. I've had some in my garage at temperatures of -30F without it freezing.

Is it possible someone used it, refilled it with water, and returned it to the store?

+1 no doubt

Hmm, that's weird. I've never had any problem with techron in cold temperatures. Just bought two yesterday and used one. I made sure the foil seal was fine.

Odd...

I luv watching these "so-called" knee-jerk reaction postings ...

Also: I never purchase anything from BOGO (don't trust what they sell..due to refund policies).

oil doesn't mix with water so I'm with Bandito on this one.

That's really weird. I would take it back to the store.

I had a bottle of it in my car and we got to -2 F recently and nothing happened.

from the responses so far it does seem like maybe a customer pulled a fast one by putting water back in. would make sense as people do some strange stuff these days. taking it back for a refund or exchange seems like a good idea.

I'm with these guys, you either got a bad batch or someone used it, refilled with water, and returned it to the store.

Really, you should have saved the busted bottle. Call Chevron customer service anyway, let them know what happened. They may send you another bottle.

I've had bottles in my garage for a couple years, which gets below 5 degrees a few times.

I'd agree, something fishy is going on here. I'd call Chevron or take it back to the store.

To add: I've seen folks trying to return individual quart bottles (suspected of tempering) back to AAP where when store clerk opened up the cap, found out that the guy actually refilled it with used motor oil before returning....

The rest was simply history.

I always check for the temper seal condition before bringing the product home. Can't trust what's on the shelf anymore.

I bought 6 bottles a few weeks ago at AAP when it was BOGO and for some reason a coupon code glitch was working online. When I went to pick up in store, checked all the tops at the register and two were devoid of their foil.

I'd agree with others, probably tampered to get the credit on a return, unfortunately it happens.

So I guess you didn't check for the foil seal. It was surely water or ??.
I might hazard a guess that Techron wont freeze at any temp the car will start and run.

A guy on another forum admitted swapping bearings out of a new pulley with the old one then returning it to get his $20 back. I admonished him for it and at least he admitted it was wrong instead of mouthing off about it.

The circumstances outlined in this post do not seem right. Not that I am saying anything against the OP. It seems the scenario of someone returning a bottle full of water is more likely to happen.

It could happen to any bottle,

One doesnt buy techron for its quality in plastic, it works well in gas tank and as long as it does its job, its a good product.

Maybe on bottle it says dont store to 5 degrees....

Dont condem a product because you left it in cold for so long.
