440 rebuilt in 1994 and has about 20k on the rebuild. When I got the car I realized they had the AF on wrong and the car was not breathing filtered air. I am pretty sure that lasted the whole 20k. I also think the PO may have overheated the engine in the last 5k miles.

Probably has broken ring lands. Do a compression check. If it checks same on all, i wouldn't worry as long as it's not smoking out the exhaust.

Is there a pcv valve or road draft tube? What was the quality of the rebuild? Compression test . HC in radiator etc.
