PP Platinum or Amsoil?....

I am due for an oil change, and by tommorrow I will make a decision to keep running Pennzoil Platinum and change at 9000 mile/6 month intervals, with a high quality oil filter, or switch to 1 year intervals with Amsoil (unsure if ASL or new 0w30) with their new EA oil filter. I want everyones opinion, with reasons for decision. Im not worried about warranty with my 2008 silverado.(6000 Vortec) I got to admit, while I trust pennzoil platinum with all the UOA's I see, when the sap boils down to the sugar... I see amsoil does have better specs (ie, better HTHS, NOACK. pour point etc.) Feel free to chime in everybody! This is why I joined this forum!
Just as a side note, I do have an aftermarket computer tuner, and I see Amsoil recommends shorter intervals on their website when using these. Is it the heat they are worried about?
 
Would you be willing to run it longer than 6 months with the Amsoil? If so, I would go with that. If you plan on sticking to 6 month intervals, the PP should serve you fine. My :2cents:
 
I'm in the middle of a 1 yr. OCI using Amsoil ASM and the EAO filter, and have the most confidence in their oil. The PP is a good oil, but the specs do look better with the Amsoil, and i trust it more for that amount of time.

Absolutely spend the few extra dollars and get the SS0, and do 1 year intervals. SSO is a superior long drain oil and will do better in the GM than ASL.

Amsoil does indeed shorten intervals for modified and chipped engines, simply because it opens such a wide range of variables out of their control.

It's a 2008 - how many miles on it now?
 
Your gonna be sorry about the warranty when your door falls off! I would prefer to run 2 6 mo. ocis with with a "lesser" oil and filter vs. 1 yr oci with a "better" oil and filter.
 
So let’s see you doing 9K at six months or 18-20K in a year. Your new engine still braking in and requires more frequent oil change. Let it go up to ~30K first then do whatever you pleased with but I wouldn't keep any oil longer then 12-15K and no one should. Looks like PP at 5-7K would be better choice for now.
 
What will happen is with what ever oil you choose you will get an increase in mpgs and the truck will run better because it is breaking /broken in but it will be because of the oil selection . What do the difference in specs really have to do with anything in real life? That is my opinion .Both oils have their benefits .Try a few oil changes with both,I doubt there will be a super big difference in the long run.

OK Highway miles. Take it out 10K on the SSO next change, then 15K miles.
 
1.) Continue with PP (OCI 6 mo) and use an extended drain filter and chg filter once/year.

or

2.) Go with SSO - go ahead with a full 15k+ OCI w/ UOA. If UOA is good, stick with it. If not so good, drop back to #1 above.
 
Pennzoil Platinum is a far more economical way to go. $3.98/qt. compared to $10/qt. for the Amsoil. Go ahead Amsoil salesmen and fans. Throw your stones at me.
