My goal is not to raise income taxes. Thats why I said across the board Income Tax CUTS. The goal is to shift to a use/consumption tax that would be directed to needed repairs. Without allowing the federal government to divert the funds to their pet social programs.

Get the Feds the heck out of the way, and let America get back to work!

That says it right there!

But this is not just "potholes". I realize in the Northern states that this is a fact of life. We're talking over 100 potholes in a 1 block radius. What isn't full of potholes is heavily washboarded and heaved. Driving down the road is a constant resonance, something similar to having a tire with a slipped belt. And my car is a large softly sprung luxury sedan.

Many of the roads around here aren't just "bad", they're destroyed. I've started driving to work about 10 miles out of the way just to avoid them.

And it's not just the climate around here or whatever, most of the roads in the suburbs are just fine. (I live in the core city) It makes me frustrated because just about all of the roads here in the city could use a lot of work, but I know it won't happen.

Meanwhile I guess I'll just drop heavy coin on suspension parts, I know that my car is taking a beating with all of this.

That's classic "someone else pays", and entropy at work.

When instituting water restrictions, the council pointed out how much dying sports fields would cost the rate payer, when the cumulative total of ratepayer's gardens was orders of magnitude more.

This is why I drive my Silverado downtown instead of the Accord. It just makes since to have the truck when offroading driving on "paved roads."

With all of the rain here in so cal the past month the pot holes are everywhere. Im not sure what its like in the other parts of so cal but in the antelope valley i swear the roads are just dissolving with all this rain.

In Michigan, we go directly from ice fishing season to pothole fishing season.
Just another excuse to get out in nature.

In autumn, we switch to pothole tailgating season.

if they do it right the first time then they wouldn't have to do it over and over again.

there is one pothole a block from my house that was refilled about 4 times, its breaking apart again>@>@>@

We have no potholes almost anywhere in Irvine/Orange County, most of the streets were re-surfaced in the last 2 years. The streets of the neighbor cities of Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Mission Viejo, Fountain Valley ... are as good or better.

Increase fuel state fuel taxes slightly and direct increase to maintaining road infrastructure directly. Fuel taxes are typically siphoned off into other aspects of the government.

Because when roads are laid out, they hire the cheapest contractors with the cheapest materials.

If they built roads properly, wouldn't have this issue. Talking 6ft depth of concrete and supporting materials. Not just a cheap asphalt layer which after 1 year crumbles.

I've seen concrete freeways around here that lasted 20+ years with their original surface and only minimal maintenance. Lately they've been laying thin venners of asphalt that develop horrible potholes in 2-3 years, and now need serious maintenance or rework every year, and lane closures for the whole summer every 5 years. I can't imagine what is going through the minds of the idiots that run the road department in our area! It's as though they purposely want to make horrible roads in this area.

I'm old enough to where in the past I've seen 20+ year old roads completely dug up, repaved with new concrete, than last another 20+ years. What's wrong with that plan?... and it's the least intrusive when it comes to summer freeway construction.

It's known that the Greeks have a monopoly on the road paving businesses in the area.

I could mention other nonsense and waste that has gone on with road repairs in the area, but it'd only get my blood pressure up.

C'mon Kestas you know the answer to your question. It costs ten times as much to replace vs repair. We're broke man...lol.

I like the time and quality incentives they have been adding to the contracts lately, they seem to help a bit.

Why did they stop using those fiber based patches, the ones that look kinda like raw fiberglass. They seemed to last a lot longer than the lame hot asphalt patches.

Man, do you remember I-75 South from the State line to around Woodhaven? They completely rebuilt it with that lame mix of concrete and within five years there were huge potholes....completely falling apart. That contractor was actually sued by the State and I think he paid for part of the subsequent rebuild.
