I don't know where my "thread" went so I'll just leave this here. My john deere 314 burned oil like me and whiskey. Smoked like the devil when it started and oil didn't last long. I had to top it off almost every time I used it. I introduced valvoline premium blue 10w30 and she's been chewing on it for months now. She still smokes a little on start up and runs great when she's warmed up. But I have not put any oil in it at all since the last post I made (wherever that went) and whenever it was many months ago. She's running great. The dip stick is still on the perfect F line and is still clean as the day i put it in. Valvoline premium blue = good oil. I am also running this in my f150 5.0 and will get a uoa. Whoever is in liberty to delete my content. Thanks. You have disriupted my experiment.
That's the one. For some reason I couldn't find it.Did you mean https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/t...t-small-engine-oil-change.128191/post-6876341 or a later post? In any case, glad to hear that you are seeing some improvement.
That my friend, is a tank!! They don't make them like that anymore. Good stuff from back in the day when things were made to last.1985 Troy-Bilt Pony rototiller. Purchased and collected from the factory in Troy, not an MTD product. 5 HP Briggs flathead.

I'm not thrilled about running a 5w-30 in this engine but curiosity got the best of me. This machine will see a few minutes of run time here and there for succession plantings but won't see a real workout until the fall cleanup in November.

I remember when I went from belt drive to a hydro mower. Definitely a game changer. Exmark mowers are awesome.Just picked up this 2015 Exmark Viking 48" hydro walk-behind with the sulky and Kawasaki FS481V engine. I have a 1998 Exmark 48" Metro walk behind with sulky that works great, but this one being a hydro will make mowing around all my gardens, patio, and fruit trees much quicker since it has reverse. The Metro being a belt drive has "reverse assist" but really needs to be pulled backward. This also has a larger engine, where the Metro has a single cylinder Kawasaki 14hp.
As always it needs a few things to be up to my standards, such as new rear tires/tubes, belts, deck idler pulleys, all fluids and filters changed, and some new blades. Otherwise it works well and starts first pull, 660 hours which is nothing for one of these.

Out - Probably M1 or PP 5W-20
In - 1qt Havoline Dino 5W-30, 8 oz Rotella Gas & Truck, new Briggs filter.
Why the Havoline Conventional? Using up old stock. Still have 1 more qt from when I used it in kids old leaking CRV before I changed the crank seal. That car is gone for 3 years already.
