Has anybody tried this Triax SAE 30 small engine oil?

I came across this on Amazon last night and wondered if anyone has tried it? Seems a bit expensive but so is every other air cooled small engine labeled oil out there. https://www.amazon.com/4-Stroke-Syn...94051&sprefix=triax+sae+3,aps,231&sr=8-1&th=1

Another question I have is, is there REALLY a difference in air cooled small engine oil vs using a regular detergent SAE 30/ HD30 or automotive oil? my dads push mower from 1977 has had 2 oil changes per year using whatever was handy, SAE 30, 10W30, 10W40, 15W40 per year for 49 years straight now and has done fine on all of it and the engine still runs as good as it ever has, for all approximately 1600 hours run time worth.......

One thing I will say is out of all the oils I've used, I've been least impressed with Supertech HD 30, seems to shear fast and smoke occasionally in multiple engines that don't normally smoke at all.

Never used it. If I wanted the novelty of using a dedicated small engine oil, or it gave me the warm fuzzies to do so, sure I'd run it.

I'm cheap and lazy, will pass on stocking another oil that's almost double the cost and is inferior to other oils I already have on the shelf.

Not me!

OK

No

It is cheap, what did you expect!
seems to shear fast
How are you coming to this statement that you made?
smoke occasionally in multiple engines that don't normally smoke at all.
The smoke thing, now I could be wrong, sounds like a Ring issue from using cheap oil's that have been used in this mower. I am guessing this engine is a flat head engine, is this a push mower?

I've had this Supertech HD30 oil cause multiple engines to smoke under certain conditions both OHV and flathead, that normally never smoke at all. Also seems to come out abnormally thin out of lawnmowers compared to anything else I've used.

Always used 5 & 10W30 in my small engines if I didn't have a HD30 available. Main difference on a HD30 oil sold for small engines would have more zinc over a passenger vehicle oil.

A monograde oil cannot shear. How are you measuring this supposed shear?
By the fact that it pours out of engines like water when other SAE/HD 30 oils I've used don't during an oil change that doesn't even have 20 hours of use on it. I've used this oil on and off for about 10 years, same results every time, lawnmowers, pressure washers, whatever.

"-50f pour point for winter operation" I bet it's a 5w-30 that's not labeled as such and possibly under formulated even at that. At 8.75 a quart it's a scam in my book. Just run whatever 15w-40 or 10w-30 hdeo in your ope.
Yeah it sure has some bold miracle claims doesn't it lol.

Well if it’s a monograde and does not have VII then it could meet the requirements for a multi-grade but not be labeled as such.

I’m assuming this determination is via the eye viscometer?

It’s an SAE 30 oil and has to meet all the same viscosity requirements as any other SAE 30 oil. It’s not shearing.
Then why does it pour out so abnormally fast and cause engines to start smoking and consuming it once it gets a few hours on it? never had that problem with Delo 400 SAE 30 or Rotella T1 SAE 30 at all. Hell, I even tried Mobil 1 euro 0W40 in my lawnmower I mentioned a year ago and I think it did the best with that out of anything that's been in it for the last 25 years. No smoke or consumption issues with that one either. I'll probably start just using that once my stash of HD 30 is used up. Anyways, seems the Triax stuff I was curious about is a bust from what everyone else thinks, which is about what I thought.

It’s not shearing. If it is indeed “abnormally thin” then it’s not in accordance with the labeling. Probably a Warren product, it should be reported to them.

Visual estimation of viscosity is not reliable. It’s highly influenced by temperature.

Just to add to this, I use whatever is laying around so usually a 10W40 or something similar in a lawn mower, etc. Never bothered with SAE30 and friends. I don't think it really matters that much. They seem to manufacture that stuff based on the fact the owner will never change or check the oil.

Not a brand i trust at all. Too many reputable, easy to acquire quality oils to fool around with this brand.
