Post your latest small engine oil change

The single cylinder Courage engines have the crankcase cover on the top under the flywheel instead of the bottom of the engine by the crank. These bolts like to work loose and get jammed in the flywheel causing all sorts of damage. One of that engine's many flaws.
Is this true for the dual cylinder engines?

Engine is a 26 HP Kohler Courage installed on my Scag Turf Tiger. I have been using Mobil 1 EP 10W-30, but since the engine is 23 years old with nearly 1,000 hours on it I decided to up the viscosity a bit to 15W-40. I chose Mobil Delvac Extreme because of it's meaty additive dosage, allowing me to add 5% of a 9 cSt advanced POE without being concerned with additive dilution. Hopefully the POE will provide some slow piston cleaning. The engine runs smoother and quieter, although that may be because I re-gapped the plugs, one of which was quite narrow.
I put iridium plugs in my X320 JD, it runs a lot better now and the used oil doesn’t smell like gasoline anymore. I think it had a bad plug from the factory.
What’s POE? It sounds like something I might catch from a public washroom.

Grandma's new Mantis tiller need something really small for weeding rows.
Two hrs on first dump with some Vpracing small engine oil 10w30 change was the same great little engine super easy to start. Some glitter and fillings will change again soon it's a 2.7oz sump

Thats a cute little engine

>> My latest oil change was on my 1999 Snapper with a swapped 2012 Briggs 7.25 flat head motor. Used Briggs 30 oil and the motor doesn't have a filter. <<

Hey Silverado12,

Would you happen to know the Model and Type numbers on that 2012 Briggs Flathead 7.25 motor?

I wonder if any only those are still available.
I took the motor from a front wheel drive Snapper I already had. The driveshaft is 7/8" with a 3/8"-24 bolt for the blade. The replacement motors are all OHV but they work really well as I have one on my Toro Super recycler. Local Briggs dealer usually will give you a decent price or you can go to Small Engine Warehouse and tell them your year and make of mower.Replacement Motors

So how will you determine if your “witches brew” helped at all? Or did anything positive?

Strictly by sound and feel. Even without sensory confirmation I expect the higher viscosity and a dose of ester will be beneficial for an old engine.

Just rebuilt this 2000 model DR field and brush mower, and installed a new Honda GXV390 engine. I previously used a 1960's Gravely walk-behind for clearing brush on the property, but it weighed over 600lbs and was difficult to maneuver on rough ground. This mower is way easier and faster to use.

-New engine
-New belts/idler pullies
-New tires/wheels/drivechain
-Serviced transmission
-Rebuilt locking differential
-New blade

Break-in oil out: Rotella T4 15w40
In: Mobil Delvac 15w40

I just saw a Deere large equivalent - front PTO, rear steer at the park. DROOL!!!

Just picked up this 2015 Exmark Viking 48" hydro walk-behind with the sulky and Kawasaki FS481V engine. I have a 1998 Exmark 48" Metro walk behind with sulky that works great, but this one being a hydro will make mowing around all my gardens, patio, and fruit trees much quicker since it has reverse. The Metro being a belt drive has "reverse assist" but really needs to be pulled backward. This also has a larger engine, where the Metro has a single cylinder Kawasaki 14hp.

As always it needs a few things to be up to my standards, such as new rear tires/tubes, belts, deck idler pulleys, all fluids and filters changed, and some new blades. Otherwise it works well and starts first pull, 660 hours which is nothing for one of these.
