Generac filter

Yearly oil and filter change. The first oil and filter change since installation last October. The oil had a slight metallic simmer.

I changed the oil in my 1973 JD 112 with rotella t1 30w oil and changed out the rotella 30w from my mud motor on my duck boat with bass pro shop 10w30 marine oil left over from my big lund boat. It’s getting down into the 30’s in the mornings and the lighter oil helps with pull starting.

When did HPL start making small engine oil??
I asked Dave about a small engine oil and He told me to use 5w40/15w40 diesel oil.
For a bit of time now call Mary Jane she will set you up don’t think you can go wrong either direction.

My old Troy Bilt Super Bronco tiller that was given to me years ago by a friend. Lent it to a cousin a year ago, we no longer speak so I went get it back. Low on oil and rusty 🙄🙄 it was rusty but not this bad.

The ol Briggs got a new NGK 6719 plug and some Delvac 15W40. Air filter is good. Ill tear it apart soon to chip off the rust and paint it.

Friend had an old yard machines 139cc 22 inch mower that wouldn't start after some unknown time of general neglect. This was a freebie to him long ago and never had any real maintenance. I offered to try and futz with it to get it running just for fun. I did so. It is running. It last ran by having constant half choke, so that was my baseline. It now runs at half choke. Replaced the intake filter and spark plug. Sharpened the blade. Had to come up with a hack to hold the filter housing on as the mounts had cracked and were not holding together. Used some old steel strapping to curve around it and hold down with the screw anchor. Then lubed 'er up with some T6 15w40. Diesel oil is the secret sauce for older small engines. The half-choke is definitely a carb teardown, clean, and pokey-pokey in the jets. But those gaskets... yeesh. I wasn't ready to be responsible for those if they broke. So, I left it. Maybe some day. Now it runs as expected at half choke. Boom... Beer me.

Is that a Troy-Bilt product or an MTD product? I cannot recall where the Bronco landed in their lineup. I have a Pony (5 HP) from 1985. At that time there was a Horse (8 HP) and an Econo Horse (7 HP). Where does your tiller land on this spectrum?

I've been running mine on 15w-40 RT6 the last two seasons. Most of its life was run on Quaker State SAE 30 conventional. At the moment it has VRP 5w-30 in the sump. Perhaps if enough oil finds its way into the exhaust the paint will be restored to its original factory fresh condition - LOL.

Not sure but I can look into that soon

I couldnt find the code on the engine to tell what year it is, but the sticker says it meets 2006 EPA standards. I read that Troy Bilt was acquired by MTD in 2001 so Im assuming its an MTD product

Likely an MTD, but it was back when MTD still made decent stuff.

Anybody use mobile 2 in their small engines? Several years ago I had a B&S quantum powered MTD push mower. Hated that thing with a passion but it would not die! I changed oil about every 2 years with 5w30 drained out of my pickup. Ended up giving the mower away when we moved across the country. **** thing was on its 2nd or 3rd set of wheels bought from the local parts scrounger.

I've got more than enough new oil, I have no reason to put dirty oil in my mower.
