Post your latest oil top off

A question that fits right into this thread.....

If 1 quart is added every 4k what percentage of " replenishment " is being added back into the equation?

Would it make sense to then run the total OCI up to 8k when it's ready for yet another quart
Or stick to 5k for simple numbers and drain and refill with 6 quarts and start all over again?......not worried about penny pinching on oil changes or fractional oil prices just seeing how the bitog collective is thinking

I honestly thought PUP 10W30 would have made it to 5K without issue. Will be implementing the severe-service schedule of 3750 mile OCIs going forward.

A new PCV, BG EPR treatment, going from 5W20 to 5W30, and finally to 10W30 hasn't made any appreciable difference in oil consumption, which averages a quart every 3250 miles.
Smart Hyunkia owner you've become. Hat off and thumbs-Up to you.

All the oils I've drained from my Hyunkias' at Severe Service Recommendations would have made it much-much farther. So would have your PUP and mine also. I ran that oil for a few OCIs. Then I started going higher on the boutique oils ladder and currently with Amsoil Hyundai / HPL Kia.
Late this year will see HPL Kia / VRP Hyundai for 2-3 OCIs. Overall engine is very clean, but I'm going after the spots where VRP-alone claims to be a sole cleaner of.

No engine tear down and no cameras in examination before / afterwards.

I’m 2300 miles into my second interval with VRP 0w20 in my 2016 Civic and I just added 100ml of top up. The dipstick on this car, like my Corvette, is difficult to read because it gives a totally different reading on one side compared to the other 🤦‍♂️
The Civic used to consume about 1/2 a quart every 5000 miles before using VRP, so it’s already looking like the second interval has cut the consumption in half, if not more (will know better once I finish the full 6k interval that I plan to do here)

1998 Accord LX 4 banger, 185.5K, 2,000 miles since last service
Added a little over 1 quart as it didn't register on the dip stick.
I knew she was starting to go through a little oil, but ouch!

Just went on a trip to LA and around...

I consider myself lucky that none of the four vehicles in our stable require any top up oil. My last vehicle that did was a 2001 Volvo V70XC running on the plain vanilla 10w-30 M1. I experimented with 10w-30 M1 High Mileage and 0w-40 M1 FS and these seemed to cure the problem. That engine had 278k miles when it was retired due to a failed transmission.

1 qt of ST Advanced 5w30 to friend’s 2018 Kia Soul Plus 2.4l GDI. Had recently done oil and filter change with 4+ qts ST Advanced 5w20 and oem blue filter. Shortly before OCI topped off with 1.5+ qts of ST Advanced b/c car was low on oil and code/check engine light came on.

Already burned a qt in 1000 to 1500 miles. Going to bump up to 5w30 VRP after dealer oil consumption test per TSB on these Kias and possible piston soak procedure. Will use 1 qt HPL EC 30w as well b4 change to VRP 5w30.

Kia manual states OCI of 7,500 miles. There would be no oil left if not topped off. This car has been mostly been serviced at Kia dealers and they used engine flush products, and 0w20, 5w20 and 5w30 per invoices.

I own the same year and model; odd that a Kia dealer would put 0W20 into one of these. 5W20, 5W30, and 10W30 are specified in the Owner's Manual; 0W20 is not.

I am not too worried about the 5w20 v 0w20 tbh. Looks like newer Soul models allow 0w20 in manual, so maybe dealer didn’t have 5w20 or Kia allows. Not sure. My gx460 allows either and I’ve used 5w30 and sometimes 3qts/8.2 of 5w40. And of course in other countries 5w40 or higher is permissible in the manual.

But, I am upping the kia to 5w30. I read the kia oil consumption TSB procedure online and they tell dealer to use specific 5w30 (from Total) or if not available top quality 5w30 gl6 sp etc. I find it interesting that the oil cap says 5w20, but TSB oil consumption test says 5w30. I know it’s CAFE. But, still for engines with known oil burning and failure they should require a higher grade. I would have used 5w30, but it was still winter in Colorado so did the 5w20. And it was down 1 to 1.5 qts b4 I even did the oil change 3/2025 and had a code thrown and CEL on. Wanted to see if it would consume oil again w/new 5w20 ST Advanced. Knew it probably would and dealer will require service records per TSB, so used what oil cap indicated.

Appointment scheduled for next week at dealer. Not sure if TSB has been updated though. Dealer may do an overnight piston soak or say not an issue if burning less than a qt per 1000 miles. Possibility of new engine too.

If dealer does nothing, I’m adding the HPL EC 30w on next top up and installing new pcv. Then VRP 5w30 at next change. Starting a record cause it’s at least burning a qt at 1500 miles or less.

I’m only 1000 km away from the end of my current interval with VRP 0w20 in my Civic so I topped it off with the last 200ml I had left from that jug. It didn’t need it so it’s slightly over the full line now but not by much. It will be a 10,000 km interval, then I have a jug of 5w20 VRP which I will run for 10,000 km as well, then I’ll be switching over to ESP X2 0w20.

my 5.4 Ford is the only vehicle that consumes any appreciable amount of oil over a typical (5k miles) OCI. it’s on its first run of VRP and I added a little over a quart after 2500 or so miles

My son bought a 2012 F350 with the 6.2L gas engine with 224,000 kms two months ago.
The oil had just been changed at a Ford dealership in northern BC with 5w20 and a Motocraft filter.
Two weeks and 1,400 kms, the oil was down below add. We topped it off with 0w40 M1 FS and he was off to Vancouver and Whistler.
When he got back to my place a week and 1,200 kms later, the oil was on the add line again.
I drained the oil and put in 7L of Delo 5w40 that had 6,000 kms on it from a deleted Duramax and a #10060 filter.
We went to town and back which put on 120 kms. I drained the oil and put in 7L of Delo 5w40, a TG2 filter and sent him back up north.
That was week and 1,600 kms ago. The oil is still on the full line.
At the rate the engine was burning 5w20, it would take 11-12 litres of oil between 13,000 km oil drain intervals.
The oil is turning dark sooner than expected as the new base oil composition and chemistry is cleaning up the engine.
Going forward, I gave him a pail and half a jug of Delo that I bought in 2020 and needed using up.
The truck will run out the OLM in 4-5 months, so he’s good for a year and a bit.
With 5w40 A3/B4 in his 2013 5.3 1500 GMC , the oil would be on the add line right about the time the OLM hit 5%.

I just topped off the Corvette with a 1/2L of ESP Formula 5w30. This is my last interval with the older formula of this stuff (this particular batch was produced in 2018!), and after I had done the oil change in the Corvette with it I only had this one single bottle left for topping off. So I will add the other half of it in a few thousand miles (it will probably overfill it slightly but these LT1 engines can be overfilled by at least a quart without any issues)

I always would change the oil in the 2013 rav4 with either mobil 1 5w20 or Castrol, and I would top off with harvest king from rural king (till the name changed to providence oil). I just couldn't see it making a difference at the last 1k miles for my situation to mix oils. They were both a full synthetic oil. The rural king oil used to be $2 a quart. Has gone up since then, but is around $4 a quart IIRC for fully Synthetic of their brand.

Also rural king and menards have been the last two places just about to get Dino oil for the 00 Toyota camry (conventional). Of course, unless I use t4 10w30 which isn't a problem.

Bought a 2011 toyota tacoma 4x4. Same day, dropped the rear differential oil to change it because it's one of the most forgotten fluids!

Of course, when I pulled the plug it came out like new! Shell 75w90 GL5 went in. It's time to top it off though!

Topping off the 2023 Silverado 2.7 53k it was not on the dipstick at 2.489 miles normally I check this truck every 2k as I know it uses oil since day one ....this time I let it go about 489 miles over

One full quart brings it back up to full every 2k ish miles

I decided to try Pennzoil platinum Dexos 5w30 just to see if oil brand or GTL would make any noticeable difference in consumption from my unscientific observation no noticeable differences

The previous oil for about 35k was Mobil T&SUV 5W30 or AC Delco dexos ( Mobil bottle) I really am not one to change up brands in a truck once it has been running something for most of its life

I am going Euro 5w40 next since the hottest months are here to see if it will cut the consumption any

I would be happy if I could get to one quart low at 6k so I could just change filter and oil at 6k I may be expecting to much 😅
