he'll make it to 500,000+ miles off no name dollar tree oil! and here i am obsessing about base oils and euro additive packages.View attachment 307420
Dad comes over with his 2009 Subaru (EJ253) and I pop the hood to check the oil “oh yeah I lost that a long time ago”this is a guy who just took this car coast-to-coast, and back. (6000+ miles)
he pulled out a quart of no-name oil and topped it up, and with a wink puttered off again… I was speechless![]()
Is that a Turfbo charged enginelooking a little low on the dipstick, added a half quart of ancient SM 10w30 turf gard.

My company owned service truck that I take home every night. 2015 Chevy 3500 dually RWD with a large tool box/ service truck body. I got new tires over a week ago 14/32 good year wrangler adventure! Miles better performance in the snow! I was going to get stranded with the 4 and 6/32 rear tires in Northern Michigan.
After 500 ish miles it needed a full quart of oil. Checked yesterday needed another 1/3 of a quart of oil. Just got the truck in November, it has been getting motorcraft 5w30 syn blend.
Leaks oil onto the exhaust, does produce blue smoke sometimes after idling for periods of time then going down the road. I work outside so the truck idles a lot. Here's the wild part, 308k miles but the new Ford trucks my company is buying the transmissions are going out at low mileage and sitting in shops for weeks.
I had to sand the oil dip stick because there was a lot of buildup and hard to read. Also I believe it needs a new pcv because of the buildup inside the oil cap as well! 6.0 liter vortec.
That's entirely true too! I'm sure the truck has many idle hours. These idle a lot in the winter, and do go on a few free way trips but not daily. Very fair point.Tie he could also be short trips driving more than highway runs.
Your PCV valve probably needs replacing as you talked bout. I’d do that tooThat's entirely true too! I'm sure the truck has many idle hours. These idle a lot in the winter, and do go on a few free way trips but not daily. Very fair point.
