‘24 Malibu 1.5T @34K miles - VL FS 0W20 (bulk from VIOC) after approx 5K miles/3 months. Level is perfect. Hopefully this watery thin sewing machine 20 holds with all this boost 💨

‘15 Elantra 1.8L @214,720 miles - NAPA Blend 5W30 after approx 500 miles/6months of all short trips (most only 1 or 2 miles.) Level went up just a little bit. Probably some condensation or fuel in there. Gonna dump it next month likely for some fresh NAPA blend I picked up for $3.29 per quart. Filter will remain.

2018 Kia Soul + 2.0 GDI
115,797 Miles
2,467 Miles on oil
Mobil Full Synthetic 5W30 (not M1) with Hyundai/Kia filter

Oil checked after engine warmed up to normal operating temperature and then shut down for 5 minutes, per Kia specifications. Level was about 2mm above the "Add" mark.

Engine was given the BG EPR 109 treatment by my Kia dealer at 108K after I raised concerns about oil consumption and fuel dilution. This oil isn't nearly as sooty as normal for 2500 miles and doesn't smell of fuel, but oil consumption hasn't improved. Added 24 ounces of Mobil Full Synth today. Will have PCV changed at my next service.

Contemplating having an upcoming oil change done at my Ford dealer, just to see if Motorcraft oil and an FL-810A filter makes an appreciable difference.

I hope it works for your oil consumption. Worst case scenario you may be in the same boat as me, I'm afraid.

I've run BG EPR twice through my 2019 Kia Sportage with the 2.4L. We bought it used three months ago, with 98k miles It now has 110k miles and, I did both applications within 5000 miles of the other. I've noticed no improvement so far, sadly. I've also been running Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W30 since I changed the dealer oil around 105k. I think I need to two-three more oil changes with the stuff before I start to see any improvement. I'm disappointed and frustrated but not hopeless.

Other things I've done:
- installed new spark plugs, NGK Rutheniums.
- Changed PCV valve last oil change.
- Run high Octane (I do 90 or higher) TopTier fuel to eliminate ping/spark knock.
- Run premium quality fuel system cleaners through before an oil change (I've used Redline SI-1 and BG44K among others)
- Use CRC Intake Cleaner before oil change.

My Kia Dealer also did the BG Platinum Fuel System Service along with the EPR on my Soul at 108K. New OEM plugs were installed at around 90K. Car does run better, fuel economy is back up to as-new, and the slight clatter sometimes heard on cold starts is completely gone.

Having had a 2000 Taurus 3.0 Vulcan non-FFV V6 with severe detonation issues due to combustion chamber carbon buildup, I'm a bit leery to put anything other than 87 octane Top Tier fuel into my Soul. It gets a bottle of BG 44K at the Kia Dealer with every oil change (5000 miles) and Techron 2500 miles after that.

Oil consumption is at 40 ounces per OCI. Not horrible, but I logged nearly 600,000 miles on the six daily-drivers I've owned prior to the Soul ('11 Cruze 1.4T, '02 Ranger 3.0 FFV, '00 Taurus, '94 Aspire, '91 Festiva, '86 Jetta 1.8 petrol) without needing to add a drop of oil to any of them, ever. Having to add oil to a car that I've owned since new and maintained exactly to the service schedule requirements is a head-scratcher.

I can only imagine how you must feel given the meticulous maintenance you do on your Kia Soul, and it still looses oil (albeit very manageable).

Obviously you use and/or allow the dealer to use fuel additives in your vehicle. What are your thoughts on other fuel system cleaners beside BG 44K and Techron? Say, Berryman B12, Redline SI-1, STP 5-in-1 or Gumout All-in-one? I've used all of them (including the two you used), and I cant complain nor report or any issues, but hard to say what extent any of them did something.

Im coming due for my mid OCI fuel system cleaner, and again before I change the oil some 2500 miles after that. I'm having an internal debate on which fuel system cleaner I should use.

Do you think the BG44k would work better if added a tank of gas worth of driving BEFORE you change the oil? Or is there something to be said about adding after?

We're drifting a bit off-topic here, but since you asked...

I've only used 44K and Techron in this Soul. From an observed fuel economy and overall driveability standpoint, the 44K has an edge over the Techron. The 44K has only been added when I've had the car in for scheduled service, so I don't know if it'd be better for run it for a while before an oil change.

I've used Techron, STP 5-in-1, Gumout All-In-One, and Lucas Fuel System cleaner in my previous vehiles:

2011 Cruze 1.4T: None made any difference
2002 Ranger 3.0 FFV: Gumout All-In-One worked slightly better
2000 Taurus 3.0 Vulcan: Lucas quelled detonation much better than the others
1994 Aspire: Lucas worked the best, by far
1991 Festiva: Lucas worked the best, by far

Rings could be stuck, allowing combustion blow-by, fuel dilution and oil burning. I'd try some Valvoline Restore and Protect. Many here have reported oil consumption went down after using it.

Thanks for bringing that up. I've been genuinely curious about R&P for my application after seeing the numerous positive remarks about it on this forum.

It just occurred to me that I could use R&P as a top-up oil. Will go pick some up; we'll see if it helps.
