Do Hondas have these kinds of problems? Does a K20 from an RSX Type-S or Civic Si have that kind of wear? Or the S2000's F20C? They also go above 8000 rpm
It can if it's burning 1 qt of oil every 300 miles. In a healthy engine the amount of damage done to a cat by zddp is far outweighed by the damage a flat cam would do with its misfire ..
I would rather replace cats every 15 years than a worn cam that can scrap the whole engine.
My 2000 Celica GT-S has 30,000 miles on it. At this point it gets driven less than 500 miles per year. Last year it only saw 80 miles of use. I have only used regular Mobil 1 5w30 since it was new, twenty-five years ago. My car gets an oil and filter change every year regardless of miles driven.
The bigger issue with the 2ZZ is the lift bolts shearing off in the head. Toyota has an updated lift bolt design that you can buy.
An interesting note with this engine is that Lotus recommends 5w40 while Toyota recommends 5w30.
