ooops I lost the pic.
Just OE AC Delco.Looks good. What oil filter you using?
Very good sir. Thank YouJust OE AC Delco.
Wait till you drain it, if you change yourself.First time using Amsoil Signature Series (previous oil was Mobil1). I’ve done 3-4 10,000 mile intervals on Mobil1.
This is the Amsoil 5W30 at 1,750 miles. I’ve never had an oil look this dark, this quick. 2016 Toyota Avalon (133,000 miles). It also seems to be using just a little bit of oil (the car has never done that).
Yup, if any cleaning is actually taking place, there will be material present in the filter.additives darken due to repetitive heat cycles …
I’m doing the same commute/driving tendencies as always, and it looks vastly darker than the Mobil1 I used previously (I referenced the photos I put on this thread). I was told that this was a possibility, that this may happen.Yup, if any cleaning is actually taking place, there will be material present in the filter.
Yes, it's absolutely possible that all you are seeing is just the additive package responding to heat.I’m doing the same commute/driving tendencies as always, and it looks vastly darker than the Mobil1 I used previously (I referenced the photos I put on this thread). I was told that this was a possibility, that this may happen.
Honestly I was hoping this wouldn’t happen. Now I’ll probably change the filter out at 7,500 miles and take a look. But otherwise, do you think it just could be that Amsoil darkens quicker than Mobil1 (all things being equal)? The Mobil1 (historically) in my engine always stays relatively clean looking all the way up around 7,000 miles. For instance, at 3,000 miles the Mobil1 generally looks almost brand new.

Some I'm sure might be too small and pass right through the filter, staying in suspension, but based on my experience, you see stuff in the filter. You don't think the oil can dissolve any of the material?
