Polar Vortex Coming!

Hate to admit this….

But even in my area where there is a decent amount of of snow removal trucks etc etc…,

We had a 1-2 inch snowstorm in January 2000 that created 800 accidents in the Hampton Roads area… Caused massive back ups and delays etc etc etc…

And we have way, way more equipment than say Atlanta Georgia or New Orleans or Montgomery Alabama.

I believe there is a good, good chance of snow and ice along the Gulf coast northeast through the Atlantic coast next week..

This pattern is similar to the one from January 2018 when winter weather hit in northern Florida into Georgia and Isle of Palm SC had 5 inches of snow there…
Your area is likely better equipped than mine in NC. Typical snow/ice barely covers the ground most years, but back in Jan 2001 I believe it was we had an 'official' 18-20" and yeah that kinda put a halt to things for the better part of a week. Schools were closed around 2 weeks from what I recall, some businesses the better part of a week. Definitely different, but life goes on and just make the best of it and things return to 'normal' before you know it.

I find it hilarious that some tend to think weather 'should be' consistent and predictable season-season.

As you say it, "being out of one's control", you prepare and deal with it. You are not going to change it. You sound like someone who has been coddled all your life.

Anything else is just being a whiner. Stop being a whiner....
How exactly am I being a whiner? I’m not complaining about the weather. I’m complaining about idiots like you.

They moved Monday’s inauguration ceremony indoors. The last time that happened was the inauguration for Ronald Regan. 🥶
I heard that on the radio news. They said the last time that happened it was around 40 years ago, my mind thought Woodrow Wilson or maybe FDR. :ROFLMAO: :p

40 years. Gone. Just like that.

January 1985…

Day after the Super Bowl between the 49ers was and Dolphins… 49ers won 38-16 Joe Montana was MVP if I recall correctly.

It was 0 degrees Fahrenheit right before the start of that game in my area in Gloucester county in eastern Virginia. I remember looking at the thermometer and thinking… Holy cow it is 0 degrees out here…

We got down to -12 F next am.

Ronald Reagan's second inauguration was moved inside.

William Henry Harrison chose not to wear an overcoat or a hat , he rode on horseback to the ignauguration on a cold rainy day . He then delivered the longest inaugural address in American history in the rain. His tenure ended after one month when he succumbed to pneumonia.

Nice setup for skiing with dump of 8-12” at local to me mountains and nice cold temps to hold better consistency. Looking forward to cold just for that.

Someone else mentioned that, but really that was not the point. :sneaky:

But nice history lesson. They always say it's a virus or bacteria that gets you first, not the cold.

27°F here

Not yet but the real cold is on the way by the weekend. We are part of the power pool that Texas is in. I'm still paying each month for the 2021 debacle.
I thought TX had their own grid (excepting the far west, El Paso, etc.)? That was part of the issue in '21. no interconnection with surrounding states?
