my blue subaru usa filter is basically a 7317 sized extra guard or tough guard with a 20# or higher bypass valve spring...I just want the thing to filter properly for 5000-6000 miles!

Maybe it's like that internet scam picture of a gold dress from a few years ago and people were like, "is this dress gold or blue?" Now obviously it was gold and the know-nothings of the world said it was blue.

I am not going to buy an orange can now unless it has an ADBV that is a color other than black, I'll might accept orange but I really want one of those blue ADBV orange cans now. Now if by chance one ends up with a purple ADBV, I vow to outbid everyone on Ebay to get my hands on that precious collectable

I would like to use something more robust...the car is certified used with 100k powertrain warranty & I am mandated to use the subaru filters & drain plug gaskets to keep my warranty in effect; I'd prefer to use 5w-30 oil but subaru likes 0w-20 for fuel economy optimizing

I thought that they cannot make you use oem parts to keep the warranty??? The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act that was passed in 1975. Might want to look at it...

They can't ... but, if an aftermarket filter was used and it was determined that it caused engine damage for whatever reason, then they could deny the warranty caused by the aftermarket part.

Maybe the PH7317 in the original post somehow received a black silicone ADBV that was destined for a TG7317 (?)

I don't know if the black is real silicone but at my local store the TG were black and the PH were orange.

I see that the Fram site shows orange ADBV for the TG. Something weird going on at the Fram factory...

Just means you can’t rely on the color to determine what material it is… Which seems an unreliable method anyway.

In all the time I've been around here, not once has someone actually proven with a test that any black ADBVs are silicone.

I froze a black Toyota adbv and it didn’t harden up. That’s when it dawned on me how far down my priorities in life have gone.

I mean, somebody should just buy one, cut it, and freeze the ADBV, then we'd know. I've sacrificed a brand new Ultra recently, somebody else can take the hit on the questionable TG.

We use nitrile in industrial applications more critical than an oil filter “flapper” … like all materials there are systems to create and evaluate etc …
Now that Fram puts silicone in the orange can - betting my dime that Procurement wants elbow space from Engineering etc …
AC Delco nitrile ADBV’s appear to be good quality - having used nine PF63E’s - everyone has held back the U-tube before I removed them. Both work within the OLM life of a single run. I prefer silicone for extended runs.

Prior to this occurrence afaik only one brand has made a similar 'claim', and that with website 'only' info that carried over from a previous design. That design had orange silicone adbv, AND a different coo. Being accurate website still says "silicon". I digress.

As for nitrile vs silicone, no dispute both function within a given oci/fci, silicone being superior over extended ocis and temp extremes. The 'point' though is Fram website still shows orange and says silicone adbv. Multiple anecdotes posted 'prove' that to be inaccurate now, topic orange can being a changed to black and in greatest likelihood less expensive nitrile. The Tough Guard pic recently added is very surprising to me. So far only Ultra not showing adbv change

Lastly, similar to when the Ultra media changed, information posted here described as provided by FB/Fram representatives has been proven wrong multiple times. Only conclusion 'I' can reach, they either have no clue what's going on or they are deliberately being disingenuous. Either way, information is again proven unreliable, can't be trusted.

I was going to run the extra guard on my Hondas for the life of the oil monitor but not if they have nitrile. Was going to use tough guard instead but now they have nitrile? The blue adbv is cool since it’s a crossover from two companies owned by first brands. I’ll still run Fram, just have to check the filter first

People can think what they want but I am seriously considering buying all my Fram stuff from AAP from now on because at least you can check it out and know exactly what you're getting with some reasonable expectation. All the stores in my area still have wire backed media Fram Titanium filters and those bizarro world tough guard Fram Force filters. I mean if you get those in one of their oil change bundles the overall price of the oil and filter together comes out to being not THAT bad.

All the stores in my area still have wire backed media Fram Titanium filters and those bizarro world tough guard Fram Force filters. I mean if you get those in one of their oil change bundles the overall price of the oil and filter together comes out to being not THAT bad.

I find it cheaper to grab a jug of supertech and a Fram filter at Walmart

The ST ecore has (I believe) a nitrile ADBV and is also rated for 10k.

There is also high temp nitrile, and the quality depends on the manufacturer like any other product. Nitrile is not all the same. I know the Toyota black adbv stays pliable in the freezer. Cut so many open and the adbv was always the same, like new.
