Guys I bought a 5qt jug from walmart today and noticed it was API SN. The qt bottles are API SM which is the better?? May I say whice is newer?? I did not notice it until I got home I was going to service my truck but I wanted to keep the same oil type should I go back and fine some SN ??

Most vehicles don't even specify API service categories so I wouldn't worry about it.
API SN will have more cleaning agent than the SM version
My current fill of PU in the Suzuki is API SN...previous fill was SM (which produced a phenomenal UOA over a 5,000+ mile run). From what I understand, there are some changes (lower calcium and moly) to the newer formula but preliminary UOA results appear just as good...use the SN stuff with confidence (the SM will eventually be gone as it's being replaced with the SN).
if you still have the receipt you can go on pennzoil's website and get a $10 shell gas card.

SN is the newest spec so the sm is older, most likely been in stock longer. Eventually all sm oils left on the shelf will be gone as they sell off. Either one will be fine it's not worth the difference to go back and retrieve the sm spec oil.

Use either one with confidence. The SN version appears to be really high quality, even compared to the SM.

On second thought.....
If I am reading the rebate correctly, it only applies to oil changes done at a quick lube place correct? As a DIYer we cannot get the rebate for buying 5qts of oil?
