I picked up 4 quarts of Pennzoil Ultra 5w20 at a Walmart in a nearby city...$5.00 per quart, came to $21.50 after tax...I saw once I got home that this was the old API SM label. I have 6 quarts of brand new Pennzoil Ultra 5w20 API SN...is it completely safe to mix the old SM and new SN? will there be issues with the different base stocks and add packs? I figured I would do 2 quarts of SM and 2.5 quarts of SN for two OCI's. Safe? Oh, and the old SM is 4 years old.

Pennzoil Ultra 0w40 (the "SRT" branded formula) just showed up on the shelves at my local Pep Boys since I last checked. 9.79/quart- not that much better than the dealership.

I wasn't tempted... I stuck with my plan to run a fill of Mobil 1 0w40 this time ;-)

No issues mixing SM and SN. SN is, IMO, better oil because of lower NOACK. But the SM is great stuff itself.

Yeah, but also sporting a much lower NOACK

AFAIK, Pennzoil Ultra 0w-40 has always been API SN, since it was introduced about a year ago. Or at least I've never seen a PDS for API SM version of it.

That's how we know it's reformulated using GTL base oils.
It's the Pennzoil Ultra 0W-40 I'm more interested in.

Then we'll just have to wait for a revised PDS for Pennzoil Ultra 0W-40.

Agree that its resource waste at 3k interval. Why not just buy mpt thirty k oil and run it at 3k?

I sure hope you recycled all that fresh oil properly.

I would have bought the PU too, but that's an easy 10k oci in your Honda.

Sure, but we don't know what Pennzoil Ultra 0w-40's NOACK is.

SOOOOOOO....im extending to 5k, still not "extended to bitog standards, but again, when you or only drive 2 miles 5+ times per day (honestly now that i think about it its more like 7 or 8 times per day), it just makes more since to flush that out. yes i know this engine is EXTREMELY easy on oil, BUT no matter how "easy" an engine is, short trips will kill oil quickly.

So i have heard....im at 113K and it still turns over well...but how much to have someone replace?

I would bet a dealer with parts and labor could equal close to $1,000.00 If and when you have problems with your starter, I would have an independent repair shop that specializes in Hondas handle it. I bet a reasonable tech can beat the Honda flat-rate time and probably charge half what a dealer charges while still making a reasonable profit.
