What makes you think it wouldn't be? Mix away.

I dont know much about oil chemistry...i know the old and new formulation have different basestocks, and different add packs. So i wasnt sure, and i wasnt sure since the SM is old...4 years old to be exact.

SOOOOOOO....im extending to 5k, still not "extended to bitog standards, but again, when you or only drive 2 miles 5+ times per day (honestly now that i think about it its more like 7 or 8 times per day), it just makes more since to flush that out. yes i know this engine is EXTREMELY easy on oil, BUT no matter how "easy" an engine is, short trips will kill oil quickly.

I think that's just fine for syn used under your conditions...I plan on doing the same...letting the oil go to "0" on the dipstick (@ about 6k mi/9mos) and then just changing it.

I would offer this advice for you Greg...use 3rd gear around town to keep your RPMs between 2500 and 3000 during those 5-10min runs...gets the engine hotter, sooner, burning off any (well, as much) condensation you can...and I'd run it on the highway in 4th gear for 20 minutes once a week as well...

would there be any harm to the transmission doing that? and i can only control 1-3 gears...its a 5 speed so it will be in 5th then overdrive when i get on the highway, which is a good 30 minute city drive before i get there. if it was closer i would do just that, drive on the highway that is. But its a solid 30 minute city drive away. Just not very convenient, the extra gas i would spend doing that once a week could go to buying oil and changing it early.

I don't know the city/hwy ratio of your driving...in my case I'm doing 100% in town so I stay in 3rd a lot after the first couple of miles when the coolant is at normal operating temperature...

It sounds like in your case you're on the highway for your daily drive so that's not as much an issue as your 5-10 min daily drive description suggests.

Still...if your transmission is the 5-speed automatic...and 5th being OD...
I would use 4th rather than 5th (OD) for those 10 minutes on the highway...if you could use 4th...

you must have miss understood me...i am 99% city, i live 1.5 miles from work, and 3 miles from school. yes im that close to work and school. Only time my car sees highway is MAYBE once every 1.5 months. Its a 5 speed auto with overdrive...5 gears then tc lockup.

I guess I didn't get how long you'd be on the highway when you get to it...and I guess I don't understand the Accord AT...I looked at some pix and I guess you can manually access 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but NOT 4th!...ODD...another reason I like MTs...

Still, since you mostly in-town driving, once you're up to 15mph I'd put the AT in 3rd and leave it there...I don't know how the manual selection of the AT works..whether it starts in 1st and doesn't go past 3rd or if it STARTS in 3rd...if the latter start in 1st as suggested...if the former, I'd leave it in 3rd from the start...as long as you're in town with a max speed limit of 40...@ >40mph go to D...

AND THIS....
Changing oil sooner doesn't improve/prevent condensation and carbon build-up from short runs @ low MPH/RPM speeds.

...on another site someone asked what makes for a car enthusiast...taking that 30min hiway drive is what an enthusiast would do!

One more possible alternative to your situation Greg...
LEAVE HOME EARLY....and take the long, scenic route to work and school so your drive is at least 10 minutes in 3rd getting the engine oil to operating temp...THAT will help a LOT in keeping your engine clean.

So Clevy, how long is it going to take you to go through 15 jugs of oil?

With adding that to the already huge stash probably the rest of my life.
I wanted to try a jug of 5w-20 in my 5.0 hatch. Its got an actual oil pressure gauge but no oil temp. I've always leaned towards thicker oil in a 5.0 but I've got another engine, performance built though, and I want to see if its adequate.
I've tried 20w-50,10w-40 and 10w30 and start up oil pressure is the same with all of them, and idle oil pressure is only slightly lower with 10w30 vs 20w-50.
So some of the massive stash is going to testing and putting my oil where my mouth is.
I've still got a ton of 0w-40 which will end up in the turbo Capri. I'm going to stick with 5w-20 in the mod motor, and my chev is going to get devlac elite 222 0w30 as per a knowledgeable member here has shown me its virtue.
So yeah,it's gonna take awhile however just in case supply gets scarce as it has down south I can wait it out til more comes.

BTW the first car I ever owned as a kid was a used 2L Ford Capri.
Years later I bought a V6 Capri that I drove well into the mid-80's, actually it became my wife's car.

The Pennzoil Ultra 5W-20 should be a good straight substitute for the MotorCraft 5W-20 for Ford applications.
