Pennzoil Claims Formulation of Platinum Changed to Reflect New 15,000-mile Guarantee On Bottle

The Ford Coyote V8s (port injected, so low fuel dilution) with miles of timing chains do shear oil pretty good. It shows up more with high VI treated oils, like the Motorcraft 5W-50 some of those guys run. It will shear down to a 40 grade pretty quickly.

Shouldn't be a problem except maybe in a GDI engine car. I own 4 port injection cars and routinely run OCI's of 12.5K-20K miles with zero issues. All with 15w-40 HDEO's. I may try the Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum in 10w-30 and run it 20 to 25K miles and see what the UOA says.

Regarding Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage Full Synthetic 5W-30,
would the reason it's not pursuing a Dexos 1 Gen 3 approval be that it doesn't want to divulge it's proprietary formula for seal conditioners (as some have suggested). If that is the case, it's extra evidence that their seal conditioners might be the best, as they are really trying to protect the formula.

Some other "High Mileage" motor oils are not dexos rated / don't meet dexos specs. Doubt it's because they don't want the formula to be known by GM dexos certifiers.

There is nothing wrong with 20 weight oil.
I personal view 20 weight oil as adequate protection.

I own 3 Honda Odysseys with the 3.5L V-6 with VCM enabled.

I prefer to only use 5W-30 in them for the added HTHS protection, for when the van is fully loaded with 8 people + luggage going on cross country trips that include going up mountain inclines with the Air Cond on and with engine temperatures rising.
Also, if you had a cooling system issue and engine was running hotter than usual, a higher HTHS oil will provide better protection in that scenario.

I believe 5W-30 is neither thick or thin, but simply the optimal viscosity that most cars should have been speced for if CAFE fines to automakers by the US government didn't exist.
I started using Amsoil SS 0W30 in the Pilot VCM disabled. I got some Amsoil XL 5W30 that I’ll use next spring.

Very nice. Yes, 30 weight oil is optimal the Honda J35 V-6 engines from all the research I've done.
