I was curious about the current formulation of Pennzoil Platinum, since I took advantage of the $25 rebate and ordered 10 quarts of the 5W-30, some of which I used for the first oil change on the new 2024 Odyssey, so, using the link on the Pennzoil website, I emailed Shell Technical Support Helpdesk with 2 questions:

1. What's the HTHS value of Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 (SP version)?

2. Has the formulation changed to reflect the new 15,000-mile guarantee on the bottles?

"Justin" from the USA Technical Helpdesk replied.

The answer to the HTHS question:

Hi John,

Thank you for contacting Shell Technical.

Due to an NDA with our suppliers, we are not allowed to disclose HTHS values. Rest assured as this product is API SP rated, it is within acceptable values.

As for the question about the formulation, he did not answer it in the first email. I had to email him back and ask again, to which he replied,

"Yes."

Castrol beat everyone... 🙄

I’m not sure how much I’d care if I did care. As they note the range of allowable HT/HS values is constrained by the grade, and beyond that any ILSAC resource conserving grade will be at the low end.

If a particular HT/HS is critical to someone’s choice then either purchase it from a blender that publishes the value (while remembering it’s a typical value) or go for an oil with a European approval or ACEA Sequence with a higher minimum.

It’s just a curiosity thing for me.

usually if anything might show something not as good, manufactures hide behind the "confidential" thing!! tests MUST be done for certs BUT!!

Do they say in small print some place oil needs to be changed as per car's manual anyway? Marketing isht just makes them look less intelligent... but, majority of WM shoppers will get very excited thou :ROFLMAO:
Marketing works really good. How often do we have people regurgitating the marketing claims when referring to an oil or other products?
