Parking lot scratch. Ouch!

Look at the scratch pattern on the rear door. Note how it is rounded right at the hinge edge yet the front door is scraped straight.

Perhaps a truck with big tires?
That's the thought, but without video or whatever, it's only a guess. Valley Med is a huge hospital; the parking lot is enormous and generally packed.
My hope is AAA does not lowball the work and total it out because the TSX is a great car. If they do, we will likely buy it back and take it to my guy for help.

We will see. Ultimately, it is only a car. No one got hurt.

Is that white paint transfer from another vehicle or are the scratch lines all from paint removal? How would a truck with big tires do that, there would be circular rubber marks and nothing on a lifted truck is low enough to get the bottom of the door. The wavy marks on the rear door are where the sheet metal deformed unevenly. Whatever caused it is a shame to happen to a nice older car.

Paint transfer.

Either way, that is a total loss.
No one ever called me a body and paint man, but it looks worse than it is. You can see the gaps are good, the door opens and closes fine.
Of course, painting that much of a car, alone, ain't chicken scratch.
These TSXs are made in Japan and the original paint is very high quality, at least as compared to many cars.

I will have my friend Alex, owner of The Great Auto Paint in Campbell give me advice as well. Maybe it ends up being my twin grand niece's 1sr car if you don't kick down with the Corolla?

Fender is looks repairable from the picture. If a replacement is needed, the hood will have to be blended and bumper if you want a perfect color match.

Front door might get away with a skin as long as the reinforcement is not damaged.

Rear door might be repairable if the frame isn't bent but it will need a door skin. Maybe a salvage door is in order if it needs to be replaced, who knows if OEM is still available for an 07.

Quarter panel extension behind the door is any easy repair.

I don't thing there is any structural damage but the Rear door hinges might be bent.

Wheel might buff out.

A high quality body shop would have no problem color matching the paint. In California the paint is water based so it probably won't be as durable as the original Japanese finish but the match and endurance should be good for the remainder of the cars life.

The white (?) object deformed slightly at the B pillar area instead of marring straight from the rear door to the front, suggesting it was not 100% rigid like a pole or post. Also, the plastic sill trim has no damage, which makes me think the object was not on the ground. i have caused similar damage to my own vehicles before and never felt it, but knew I was close and got out and saw it. (Once had a short scrape from a bollard I intentionally snugged up to, and once tried to squeeze a blue minivan thru a double-gated fence, and it was 1/2” too narrow). The deeper lines are consistently the high and low point of something with a top and a bottom, while the door or the other object gave in the middle as to not press as hard into the damage. i was thinking the front or rear corner of a box trailer, where they sometimes add a little wrap-around guard to protect the trailer. a truck or work van would not have even felt it. like someone was trying to back in or pull through with trailer and the arc of the turn created the rub.

i would think, however, they would have heard the mirror go. That would have made a sound, and if they were halfway paying attention to their boundaries, they would have heard that… and I’m guessing freaked out and drove off. Just my guess.

My highly uneducated guess is, much of the white stuff is a bunch of bondo/paint. I will go with him to the body shop tomorrow. I fear a total, but it is just a car. Cars can be replaced. Here is the last pic I took, for your reference.

Sucks that place has no security cameras. How about any businesses near there that might have cameras that recorded the incident? A lot of times, that's how the person is caught. Go ask around to see if anyone could offer any security footage.

Most Cameras don’t capture licensee plates . Unfortunately most police departments let insurance sort it out. My wife was in hit and run . The dummy left their MA plate imprinted into her bumper so MA state trooper said he was busy despite crime committed of hit/run. Their insurance paid up as $500 deductible was returned.

Valley Med is a huge place. It is a state of the art hospital; lotsa tech. I would have bet they had security cameras, but no luck. My friend has comprehensive coverage; it will get taken care of.

Even if there were cameras, and/o the driver were caught, chances are very good he/she was not carrying insurance.
It is what it is. Move on, as they say.

I appreciate all the comments; I will post results.

I guess it's always a long shot, but if a description and time stamp can be obtained, most of the time someone knows something and it's just a matter of time before they're caught.

The front door and fender will need to be replaced for a correct repair. Might as well paint the rocker panel as well. As mentioned before, could be close to a total, but maybe the body shop can make some concessions with the insurance company or your friend pay the remainder to avoid a total loss.

The hospital I worked at covered 12 square blocks. Multiple parking lots and garages. Security posted at strategic points. Cameras everywhere. They should have cameras. If Walmart can have cameras in their huge parking lots then this place can too.

How about a shopping cart puller with 40+ carts on it. One morning I seen a guy at wally let one of these get out of control, good thing there were no cars around.
