Can you change a fuel filter in a Walmart parking lot?

I live by a dirt road road and the neighbors kick up a cloud of dust everytime they drive by. Been waiting for either the wind to shift or it to rain. I wonder if I just changed the fuel filter way out in the parking lot of Walmart if they would care. This is my diesel truck.m, takes about an hour to do. Don't people change their oil all the time in that parking lot?

auto parts store an option?

I changed my calipers, pads and rotors in the far end of a Lowes parking lot.

It's not ideal because of limited tooling and washrooms. Why can't you do it at home?

I don't want to change it in a sand storm when the neighbors go 90 to nothing down the road. The truck has hpcr and shoots fuel out of the injectors at 23,000psi and I don't want any dirt in there. That would be no Bueno

Go for it.

How well do you know the guys at the parts store? If you're a regular customer, they'd probably be ok with you wrenching in the corner of their lot. Besides, you could always grab some cheap shop rags, oil dry, Go-Jo, etc...

Chick-fil-A parking lot on sunday.
Now that I think about it, I don't see why the autoparts people would care as long as you bought a couple things and weren't parking up front. Personally I'd park next to the curb on the drivers side, so I don't have to worry about someone pulling up next to me and running over my legs

Why specify a Walmart parking lot? Go find a huge parking area or somewhere there is no traffic at all and change it. No need to specify a certain chain store. I changed an engine in a 68 Chevelle several years ago in my apartment complex parking lot and was reprimanded for it by the apartment nazi after I got it running and back in the garage.

Lots of parts stores have signs prohibiting customers from working on their vehicles in the parking lot.

I've worked on cars in the parking lot at work which might be a good option.

Plot twist: Maybe the OP works at Walmart?

Work, family, friends houses. Walmart may have a problem, parts stores say no work but I see people doing work. Buy the filter from a parts store and do it around the side of the parking lot. Maybe obscure yourself so you are not advertising it would be my suggestion.

I changed my front wheel bearing in a hotel parking ramp...that truck wasn't going anywhere if it were not towed. I think I have a post here somewhere...
